So last night Mrs Cablebandit was one of the featured speakers at Ladies Night at our local Honda/Kawasaki dealer last night.  One of the other folks there was a rep for Shoei.  After the nights activities were finished I decided to go bug the helmet rep about a few things that have been bugging me lately.  With a warning from Mrs CB not to start any trouble I was on my way.

I let the rep know that Shoei needs to update their helmets to include a drop down sun shield.  The recently released Neotec has the feature but the Quest, their newest touring model, does not.  This is a huge oversight.  I let him know that guys like myself that wear glasses pretty much have to add 50 bucks to the cost of any helmet to get a dark shade.

So the story goes like this.  The shield wasn't ready for prime time by the time the Quest hit so the Neotec was the first to get the integrated shield.  The next oldest helmet in the line that needs an update is a 3/4 open face.  It will get a drop down visor in the spring.  Late next year we should see a regular full face with the drop down shield.

The other thing he mentioned is that the pinlock visor is going to become a standard feature as well.

Did you happen to mention anything about silencing the helmet a bit more?  Even with earplugs, I'm still getting a lot of noise.

Heath specifically mentioned that the new NeoTec does have channels/lines that runs along the cheeks near the modular joints that swirl air away from the helmet and reduce noise. He noted that most modular helmets are noisier by design and that the MultiTec was no exception, despite their best efforts at the time.

As for non-modulars, he did not mention any noise-reduction improvements during his presentation to us. Not sure about CB's post-presentation conversation.

+1 Thumbsup

I have a Qwest and a Nolan N90. I use the N90 all the time due to the retractible sun shade and it was almost half the price of the Shoei. Real shame they are behind on this as it really does not add that much weight and is the best addition to a helmet they could make...

I agree with you 100%.  My next helmet will have a retractable shield.  I love it in my modular.  Thanks for telling him that. Hopefully they relay the message to corporate.  Thumbsup

That's one that I may be interested in assuming it fits.  I have a Scorpion EXO-700 but I'm interested in Shoei.  I wear eye glasses.  Changing shields is easy but it would be easier not to fuss with it.

As a glasses wearer, I could not agree more on having a drop down shield.

Something else that plays in to the mix is that I work afternoons so I was doing a lot of visor switching before I got my my IS-Max.

Just to throw it out there if you currently have a Multitec and aren't quite ready to pony up for the new Neotec...

I too was doing to the clear -> shaded visor swapparooney until I had to order some replacement plastic bits for my Shoei.  That's when I stumbed on this  half-tint shield that I had not seen on any of the aftermarket vendor websites...

http://www.store.shoei-helmets.com/parts-by-helmet-model/road/multitec/shields-shield-acc/shcx1vht-cx-1v-half-tint.html

So far I've been pretty happy with it and haven't swapped shields since its been on.

hmm, dunno if I'd be interested in a drop down from Shoei.  I shopped around before I bought my RF-1100 and checked out Scorpion and HJC specifically for the drop down shield feature, but they seemed chintzy and one of them didn't seem to come down quite as far as I would have liked.  Having taken 15 years to finally buy a tinted shield I can't imagine life without one.  Of course that's easy for me to say since I don't ride much at night anymore and sunset is still on the far end of evening.

also, I think you lose some badass points if they can see your nose...

also, just read somewhere (MCN?) about somebody receiving a mild facial laceration from a drop down sheild during an unplanned dismount.

The Neotec also does not meet Snell 2010, because of the drop down sun shield. I have a Qwest and  Inlove. I wish that Shoei would come out with a CW-1 Transitions, that would be  Cool

I don't think any flipup carries the Snell rating.

I believe the Zeus ZS-3000 is the first.

Luckily, my head fits in a Bell I think. It'll be my next helmet.
