Kawasaki recalls 13,000 Concours for brake system fix

Washington, D.C. - Industry News from Kawasaki
Dealer News

The National Highway Transportation Safety Division today announced that Kawasaki is recalling certain 2008-2012 Concours 14 (ZG1400 A/B/C/D) motorcycles to fix a problem with the brake system.

The recall affects 13,289 units, according to the agency.

"Due to a gap between the brake pedal and guard, small stone or debris can become trapped, creating a brake drag. This can cause the rear brake to overheat, leading to rear brake damage and lock-up or failure of the rear brakes. The front brakes may also be affected on ZG1400C models," the agency stated.

Kawasaki said it will notify owners. Dealers are asked to replace the rear master cylinder rod end and remove the brake guard (if installed), free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on or about July 30.

Yup. We've all gotten notice and are sitting at home too skeered to ride.  Bigsmile

Got my recall notice in the mail. My local dealer is aware and has been in contact with Kwak. As of last fri, 8 other people had called this small dealer in N CO to report that they have also gotten the recall. I have a feeling they are gonna be busy in the next few months with this one.

Probably not.  It's a simple 15 minute fix.  Unscrew one rod end and screw on another.  Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

I got my notice a few days ago.
I'm probably not going to have it done, no linked brakes on the '09.
If I do decide and do it, I'll probably do it myself if that's possable. My local Kawasaki stealer dealer is so bad they can't even put air in your tires without screwing it up. Sad

Funny this is, this has been a recall issue since the very original C14's came out. I think the problem was flagged in 2009.  Lol Lol

I remember it from when I belonged to COG.

Changed out the "shield" around the linkage for a completely different looking part. Not sure if it's better, but it shouldn't be any worse.
