Noobie to this site and others, but going to show my ignorance. To get an IBA one must ride 1000 miles or km's in a day??. bought an st1100 couple of months ago after a 20 year hiatus. Previous bike was an 1100 shadow that i rode to mexico and back from the yukon. That count?lol. Looking to do a major tour next year with my son, and a friend down through alberta(mebbe sask), into bc and back north. looking for travel pointers and tips. When i did my last ride, I always seemed to meet up with like minded travelers who were great to travel with and abounded with info. Like I said 20 yr hiatus and seems to be a different world out there. Any tips n tricks would be very welcome.

In countries that use Miles you would do a Saddlesore 1000 (1000 miles in 24 hours) or a Bun Burner 1500 (1500 miles in 36 hours)

In countries that use Kilometers you would do a Saddlesore 1600k (1600 km's in 24 hours) or a Bun Burner 2500k (2500 km's in 36 hours)

It looks like you are in Canada, so you would do a Saddlesore 1600k.

Hmm... rode Whitehorse to Edmonton in 22 hrs on the shadow. Guess that qualifies. Don't think I'll be doing that on the ST. Got that disease called A.G.E.  and B.D. lol

I'd much rather do it on an ST1100, than on a Shadow  Lol

i'm liking the ST so far. Did a short trip(800 km ove 2 days) and know a few thing to do to make it better for a long trip. Seat is the first thing I have to change. Fairing extenders, h/b risers and a much taller w/s are on the wish list

The documentation is the hardest part, IMO.  Any dummy can ride 1000 miles in 24 hours or less. Wink

Yep. A lot of people have said they've ridden a 1000 mile day. It's another thing to document it and do it according to the rules for a cert.

For a fairly basic ride like a SS1000 / 1600k the documentation isn't too bad.  On mine it simply meant making a map and collecting the fuel receipts.

I looped to and from home so the contacts weren't important until after the fact and I took a picture of the clock/odometer at each stop.

So there appear to be rules. Documentation is the big issue. Well... Isn't happening this year. Mebbe next year, if I can work up the ambition.lol

I was joking.  Read the requirements.  You have a friend/wife/SO sign you out, witness the odometer starting mileage and get a receipt with the date, time and location on it, keep all your gas receipts in order (i put the fillup odo reading on them) and have a witness at the end of the ride when you get your ending receipt.  I've done one documented and several without.   Wink

Normal ride time for a slab SS1K is 16 ish hours, depending n your gas tank range.  I did mine in 22 with a five hour motel nap.
