Hello,

I currently have a gs500f. I need to upgrade and need suggestions. I am looking for something under 750cc, sporty, comfortable and available hard bags/top case.

The 3 650s seem pretty solid choices.

If you're willing to trickle up a little (both in cost and displacement), the BMW F800ST is an under-rated option. While a bit more expensive, Heather's is a really, really nice bike and very very capable.

Ninja & Versys are the go to suggestions. But there are some other options out there.

If stretching to 800cc and have the cash, the new Tigers from Triumph.

If you can find one, the new Honda NC700X looks very interesting for 7k.

GSX650F  if used is okay.

And since you're so close, check out VFR's.  Well sorted ones are pretty easy to find.

I have a VFR 800 and I came from a 94 ninja 600. It has all three hard bags and it is a great bike for what you are talking about. Not too big to ride everyday, ad big enough to do some long rides on. I just got back from a 4 day 1400+ mile ride with the GF and it was great. You should look into one.

A Friend that lives down the street from me had both hips replaced. Riding his ST1300 scared the crap out of him. He kept thinking that if the bike started to go down he could not keep it up. Traded it in on one of these. Great bike for sure.

I just bought a Vstrom 650 Adventure.  Should still be able to get 0% APR if buying new.  Maybe not as sporty as you want (don't know JUST how sporty you want), but total package is less than 10 grand for ABS, side luggage, engine guard, and I don't foresee any qualms with the engine.

Friend has a ninja 650 and you can pick up a used one real cheap and add bags to it, but the fuel mileage and range won't be as good as the Vstrom (I was surprised as he gets less than 40 mpg!)

I sat on and really liked the tiger 800, but the vstrom's price beat it out and I'm enjoying the heck outta mine.  Just finished the Military Sportbike Rider's Course today and proved that this thing can corner with the best of them (better than some of those danged sportbikes actually with tight corners and shifting back and forth)

If stretching to 800cc and have the cash, the new Tigers from Triumph.

Also 2009+ BMW F650GS (they are 800 cc twins despite the name).  Comfy, zippy, and choice of manufacturer or many aftermarket luggage options.

Thanks for the suggestions all.

I need to keep it under 750cc as insurance in BC goes up a large amount for a 751cc bike. I am also looking for something new that is available in BC.

I guess I should have stated that in my first post. Noob mistake I guess  Bigsmile

I did some reading and it seems like a yamaha fz6 with raised bars is nice. I do like the gsx650f tho.

I read that a cbr600rra has relaxed seating position. Any others I should think about test riding?

Soo many choices  Headscratch I think I need 2 bikes lol.

At least...

Sit on and ride as many as you can.  But a Ninja 650 is hard to beat when it comes to overall rideability.  The suspension is the only downfall but you get that with any standard non race replica bike.

He must flog it almost constantly.  I consistently get just a tad under 60 mpg from mine.

Maybe.  I see fuelly shows majority in the mid to high 40s though.  60 must be some nice easy riding on flat roads at a speed that allows it to be JUST in its top gear.

I had a FZ6 for a bit.  Had it outfitted with bar risers and a Givi luggage system (with Pelican cases) and it worked great as a sport touring bike.  Make sure you get the 07+ model cause they had re-mapped fuel injection maps and IMO better styling than the earlier models.  The undertail exhaust is pretty sharp looking too.

I ride a BMW F800ST now.
