1995 Cagiva Ducati 900 SS/CR. 20,000 miles, a few custom aftermarket pieces(rear sets, carbon fiber rear hugger, some braided lines, a couple of billet pieces, etc.), stock exhaust & D&D slip-ons, stock seat & Sargeant seat, a couple of extra period correct gas tanks & new tires! More pics to follow after I get it home & out of the truck! I thought I got it for a fair price at $3200. I also have all of the factory stuff that has been pulled off of the bike by the previous owner which is a very good friend of mine, so I know most of this bikes history & maintenance record. That is all for now. Cheers

That's where I picked it up from my friend! I can't get a plate or insurance until Tuesaday because of the holiday so he was nice enough to leave his plate on it so I can ride it legally until I can get to the Secretary of State & transfer it to my name & get my own licence plate & insurance.

Hell yeah! Anytime! I usually pass through/stay there on my way to Maine a few times a year. It's only 11 hours from where I live so occasionally I'll ride out just to visit my friend & do some riding around RI & CT. I get a pretty good rate at the Bellisimo Grande near the Foxwoods Casino so I have no problems visiting the area. I've never done anything in MA except drive through it... Any good riding there?

I swapped out the stock exhaust w/ the D&D's. I'm not sure I'm digging the chrome, but they are a tad bit smaller & the sound is truly amazing! I'll probably learn to accept the chrome finish! Now all I need to do is find a different clutch cover & maybe a different pressure plate(haven't decided yet on the components, but definitely an open style cover) & I'll be done messing w/ it. I ordered a new Corbin Gunfighter seat for it just like the one that's on it now but w/o any holes or tears from age & use! Here's a pic w/ the D&D's:

I took the Duc for it's 1st ride today & the 1st 20 miles was awesome! But then all of a sudden I lost engine power. I would accellerate hard & it just wouldn't go anywhere & at slow down it would backfire like crazy. If there is an exhaust leak in the D&D's would that be the cause. If so, is there a way to find & fix the leak? When I rode it in Maine w/ the stock pipes it rode like a champ. Could it be caused from something else? Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Start with the simple things first, like the fuel filters, fuel pump, plugs ect.. How do the belts look?
You just got it. Spend a couple hours going over it. When and what was done at the last service?
Above all don't panic, it's probably nothing serious and remember it's a old Ducati, you got to keep an eye on'em... Bigok

Thanks for the input gentlemen! I also spoke to my service advisor(SprintRSrider) who has at least 10+ years in the Ducati, KTM & Triumph industry as a General Service Manager & he seemed to think it may be a fuel issue as well. He's going to check it out for me & start w/ that anyway. Hopefully it's something simple...

Thanks everyone for the positive responses to this thread as well!

I would put the stock pipes back on before doing anything else.
You know it ran great with them.

This would eliminate the D&Ds as the source of the problem, or not.

Thing is, suddenly losing power is not an exhaust leak thing, unless the whole system blew off.  If the cam belts are old and neglected, it may have jumped a tooth throwing off the timing.

Okay, I took all of the bodywork off of the Duc & went over every hose, belt & whatever else I could see w/o cracking the engine open! I raised the tank & checked it out inside & out the best I could. Keep in mind I am not very mechanically inclined & SprintRSrider hasn't had a chance to come over & look at it yet. After several hours of scratching my head & staring at the motorcycle & multiple text & phone calls w/ SprintRSrider & the previous owner & even a few hours of Google, I decided after 2 days to put it all back together & take it for another spin. I rode it to the gas station which is .08 miles from my house & put $10.00 of Shell 93 Octane in the tank. I proceeded to ride it 3 miles up the main drag to the highway. It seemed to run fine until 4300 RPM. I got onto the highway & just unleashed the throttle. It ran well until it hit 4300 RPM at which point it would start to flutter & not gain any power. I was riding in 6th gear w/ the throttle WFO & gradually, I mean very slowly gaining speed, when all of a sudden it just lurched to 5500 RPM & upward. Then it seemed to run like normal. So after 3 miles I exited the highway & rode some excellent curvy backroads for about 18 miles. Again, running flawlessly. I got back on the highway for 2 more miles & it ran like a top. Once I got off of the highway I proceeded on some back roads the rest of the way home w/o incident. As soon as I got back I called SprintRSrider & explained the scenario to him which he had a quick response to. He informed me that he had heard/seen this problem before & thinks I may have a line inside the tank w/ a small crack in it & when the fuel level gets low enough it lets air into the line. Hey, that make sense to me! So Sunday we are going to replace all of the rubber lines inside the tank & he will give it a thourough inspection & we'll go from there. Knock on wood it's something as simple as that & it continues to run like a champ. I love the handling & torque curve! It's so light & flickable! Outstanding handling & maneuverability! The power band is amazing as well! I am absolutely in love w/ this machine! I've had several sport bikes & a 955 Speed Triple, but this is by far my favorite to date except for my K1600GT! I'll probably just be riding the GT for trips or if I need to have luggage... Mr. Black, you might not of been far off w/ your advise as far as "dry, cracked intake gaskets"! Thanks again everyone for the input! I'll keep you posted... Cheers

Is there an inside joke there somewhere?  Do have a nice vintage 1992 Fuller...it was only down once but I covered the hole with reflective tape so its safer than when it was new.

I'm working on it... I just have a couple of small details to work out yet. I'll probably take you up on your offer as well Mr. Black. I'm thinking at least Monday night possibly Sunday night too. Unfortunately RIDUX I probably won't truck the Duc, but at least I'll ride out on the GT. I'll let you dudes know what's up for sure by Wednesday... Cheers

I would like to get back on topic for a minute... If anybody is considering purchasing a bike similar to this my 1st piece of advise is don't do it. 2nd, do not pay more than $1800-$2200 max for one as it seems TT Motorcycles in Detroit & my insurance company seem to feel that would be the most they are worth. If you are interested in a SP model you'll get about $500-$700 more. If you have an aftermarket exhaust or any other add-ons it may increase the value by $500. Also, w/ only 21,000 miles on mine it made it worth a tad bit more, TT said if it had 30,000 miles or more on it you might as well scrap it because it's junk & isn't worth anything. I thought I was getting a sweet deal & a fair price & I was really excited & thought it was worth at least $3200. It's like my friend who owns a car lot says, "it's only worth what somebody will pay you for it". Cheers

I was shocked when the insurance company wouldn't give me at least $3200 which is what I paid for it like a month ago. NADA values it at $2600-$4500, KBB values it at $1800-$2500 & apparently the Ducati dealers Dealer Book values it somewhere between those. I paid more than $3200 after you figure tax, plate & title but I only get $1800! Oh well, live & learn. I always knew that the Super Sports were the very bottom low end of the Ducati models but I thought the '95 & earlier models were cool, & contrary to what you see on Craigslist, EBay & the internet, the '98 models & newer are worth a ton more than the older ones according to the Duc dealer! The insurance company did advise me to have my Norton professionally appraised so that in the event of an incident I would get what it's appraised at & not just a few bucks! Cheers

Thanks! I am searching every day. I think my Ducati days are done w/ for now though. I would love to find a Triumph, Aprilia or Moto Guzzi. I may have found a Futura but I need to work out some details. I thought I was going to get your Daytona until I talked to the insurance company...

Looking back I don't think I got a deal. The guy I bought it from only paid $2000 for it & the guy he bought it from was asking $2500. The ones that are for sale on EBay & Craigslist for $2500 & more are still for sale. Would you buy a bike for twice the amount it's worth?

For the record, I didn't buy this bike w/ the intention of making a profit or crashing & needing to make a claim. I bought it because I thought it was sweet. I still think it's cool looking but after owning & riding one I would never buy one again. I don't think the insurance company is screwing me. They are giving me what it's worth & that's what they are supposed to do whether it's a house, boat, car or motorcycle. I think I am a little upset because I didn't do any research & overpaid. That is a mistake I will not make again. I will always research book values, dealer opinions & the internet from now on. Honestly, who here would buy something, anything for more than twice it's value? Have a good day. Cheers

Check it out! After having a lengthy calm chat w/ my insurance agent & doing some more research & talking to a different Duc dealer he got the insurance company to agree to pay me the NADA value of $3450! All I have to do now is wait for them to receive the title & then they will mail me a check for $3450! It's now time to start seriously shopping for a replacement! I thought that was exceptionally great news! That is all for now... Carry on.

Amen...as mentioned above...the insurance companies are businesses, not charities, and will try to get the best "deal" possible.  Sometimes pushing is necessary to get them to do the right thing.  I dont think the $250 profit was worth the spleen though  Wink

Put the extra tanks, pipes, seat and footpeg brackets on ebay!  Or list them here.  A few extra bucks for the replacement.
