Love the power of my KTM 525 in the open stuff and love the way it will charge through just about anything with a twist of the throttle... but it can be a bit of a handful in tight quarters and I wanted something a bit easier to ride in the tight stuff and a better loaner for folks that drop by.

So.... Welcome the new addition  Bigok

2009 CRF 250X. Was un-crated for the first time early this year. Factory plastics were not the prior owners favorite color so he got what appears on the bike and threw the new OEM plastics in with the deal. I kinda of like what he's got on there so I'll keep the OEM stuff for back-up.  After just one spin on it I know it's gonna be a fun play bike. Smile

I'm trying to make sure I have a taste from each manufacturer. If you ever get back over this way consider yourself invited to take a spin.  You'd like the 525 the way I have it set up.  I should have the 250X situated soon.

Nice. Wink

Saw this and thought I'd supply an update...

Since purchase I've opened the airbox and re-jetted the bike. That eliminated the flat spot/ bog down low and woke things up. Wink

5 weeks ago on a fast section of rocky trail I glanced a larger rock with the front tire which sent the bike sideways and me into a hi-side.  Two broken ribs and a bit of hurt pride were the price for not properly setting it up for hi-speed rocky sections. Sad

Since then I've added a Scotts underbar stabilizer and some new bars. The bike is now much more stable at speed.  That reminds me. I should post of a review of the Scotts...

Anytime.  Right side is looking a bit fresh compared to the left. It could use some balancing out.  Crazy

I really like those graphics. Thumbsup

Yeah, the big displacement singles are a handful.  At my skill level, the 450X is too much for me in the woods.  I'm an explorer quality rider, not race quality.  I spent a lot of effort trying to keep it under control.  In the desert...oh yeah!

But I do love the chassis and suspension.  Thought of deboring to a 400 or trading into a 250X, which would actually be perfect for my home territory...not sure about climbing rooted up hills in other places.  Truth is, I want EFI and that kept me from doing it.

The X platform is a good one.  Stock, it tends to run wide when it isn't washing out the front.  Dropping the front 10-15mm helps if you don't want to spend the dough on a reworked shock.  But it works better with the right rear spring so you don't have to drop the front as much.  If you're off on rear sag on this bike, it will wash out and frustrate you.  It did me to the point of wanting to push it over a cliff...if one were available.  Sent the front and rear to RG3 and my attitude changed for the better.  The front started hooking up and my confidence went up and got smoother to boot.

Get yourself a good bash plate now.  And also carry some JB weld with you.  It won't take but a couple of clutch side vcfcrashes but the clutch cover is pretty frail.  The brake pedal will poke a hole through it.  The JB Weld will get you back to the truck.  In the meantime, file down the inner teeth on the brake pedal and lower it on the shaft a notch or two until you're ready to put on a more durable one, like a Hinson or Pro Circuit.

Enjoy it.  It looks great...at least for now.   firedevil
