I have been wanting to do a SS1000 around Lake Michigan all summer but this summer was just too hot for me. I thought I would wait until fall when it was a little cooler and then all of a sudden it was here...slipping away. I saw a posting on S-T.N about a couple guys wanting to do the same thing but it just didn't work out, communications that is. As luck would have it the day they planned turned out to be cold and rainy and I waited for a sunny 65ish day.
I didn't do much planning other than a route, good tires, and plenty of music to listen to. I left my home in Slinger at roughly 2:09am and headed south through Chi-town rounding the bottom of the lake and entering Michigan in just over 2 hours, traffic was non existant at that time of the morning.
I was riding my 2008 Kawasaki Concours 14 and made 7 gas stops, although 1 was to start my SS1000 and top off and another was my ending at same location to end my SS1000. I will not bore you with the details of every stop but I did keep them to a minimum as I did not want to be on the bike any more than needed to complete my 1000 miles.
I tried to keep it off the slab when the riding was good and stop for a couple pictures along the way.
Mapquest called for 1014 miles, Connie said we did 1030, all this in 16 hours and 45 min.
You can check out my route by using the following link below.
Thanks for looking and I hope you enjoy what little pictures I took.

Check out my shadow on the tree!

Way too many stairs for me...good thing I was on a schedule!

This is one of my favorite roads on the trip. It was called something like the tunnel in the trees. I called it fun. 20 miles of fun!

This was after I just crossed the Mackinaw bridge, I guess I was in a hurry to get home because it was the last picture stop for me.
