This is a mini-documentary a bit over 11 minutes. I'll do an embed below, but you really should click-through to youtube and run 1080p full screen with sufficient volume to follow along.

No matter if you're into straight-line speed or not, if you watch this whole thing and don't have a big 'ol grin on your face through most of it, eh...you're just not really 'that' into 'motorcycles' ...    Twofinger

Can't really say it's a $300 motorcycle if he fully restored it.  Headscratch

Great video!   I dont live too far from the racing out there. I always make a point to stop out each year. It feels like the last form of "real" racing that the factories have not ruined.  Good, honest, hardworking people racign anything that moves.

Well, he kept raving about his $300 bike...which I'm sure he had more than $300 into.

And what was with that huge guy with the beard?  EEK!

Didn't half those people know that the weight of the rider affects the max speed of their run?

It does? How? More frontal area?

Thumbsup  with the same drag coefficient weght makes no difference other than the time it takes to get to speed Wink

Weight = lost power.  Ideally, every ounce you can strip off the bike and rider = more power into pushing to faster velocities.

I'd think an overweight rider would rob the bike of it's full potential.

Mass has a small affect on top speed.  Drop a 10 ton rock and a feather on the moon.  Which one hits the ground first due to the acceleration of gravity?  Both.

Top speed is mainly a function of hp, aerodynamics, and cross sectional area.

Acceleration is a function of mass.  Let me introduce you to Mr. Newton.  F = ma  Lol

The world speed record is held by the Thrust SSC ( a very heavy machine) one of its top competitors is craig breedlove's Spirit (which takes a lighter weight approach). in top speed racing areo dynamics are far more imprtant than weight. Per a truck driving friend, a box trailer rig will top out at the same speed full or empty on level ground. the loaded one just takes more time to get to that speed.
