I went and took a step to the dark side.
I purchased a *Gasp* touring bike.

I got it for two up rides with my girlfriend.

Rides OK, but the seat is horrible. Need to get a new one, maybe a few upgrades too.

Hope I'm not excommunicated here.

I feel your pain.

But it does tour.
We did 1000 miles in three days, not too much but she fell in love with it.

For me to keep it it needs a new front seat, my Duc is more comfortable.

The car tire thing is only called 'the dark side' by people who for whatever reason aren't willing to call it what it is...the stupefyingly ignorant, utterly ridiculous side. I'd go with 'dark side' for the OP's new ride Smile

OP, question: wouldn't an 1800 Wing be a lot more fun to ride and also be a better touring mount? I'm just curious...not bashing in any way. What was it that led you to buy the bike that you did?

I bought new gear for her, she had a leather jacket and chaps, she now has textile jacket and pants, new dainese boots. She did buy her own helmet.

So no, no pirate gear here.

Yea, he has been my riding buddy for several years. He blames me for getting him interested in going to the races. He sees more than i do now.

He just retired in February, bought himself a new bike, a Concourse.

I told him he did it backwards, he bought this couch in 1999 (his term for the touring bike)  then he retires and get the connie. I told him he should have gotten the connie in 1999 then moved to the couch when he retired.

No I just get to be jealous of how many rides he will do until i can make it to my retirementr and go on all of them with him.

Thinking about it, I need some new riding buddies. the three I have been riding most with, two are retired and the last one retires next year. So i either need some new riding buddies, or i need to win the lottery Lol

That's the same reason I bought the Leadwing a year ago.  I've always considered it a 2-up motorcycle.  The few times I would ride it by myself, I kept thinking I should stop and give someone a lift.

+1

When we were in our yoot the wife didn't mind 2 or 3-day trips on the back of a Ninja, but now that I'm creeping into dotage a nice baggy bike seems like a good idea if I want to ride 2-up for anything more than a 2 hour trip. A V-Star or a Harley polysyllabic something or other might do the trick.

As far as the seat goes, it's been my experience that Mustang seems to make the best cruiser seats. I've tried more than my share and kept coming back to Mustang on each cruiser I owned.

Ride solo when you're in the mood to ride solo.
Ride 2-up when you're in the mood to ride 2-up.
Group ride when you're in the mood to group ride.
Ride with people who are of the same mindset.

Doing any of them when you're in the mood to do something else will diminish the ride.

The car tire thing is only called 'the dark side' by people who for whatever reason aren't willing to call it what it is...the stupefyingly ignorant, utterly ridiculous side. I'd go with 'dark side' for the OP's new ride Smile

Wana have some fun?

Go to www.fjrforum.com  there's a 165 page thread there (yes 165 pages) about CT's on the rear of FJR's.

Many of them tried to convnce me they handle just as good as a cycle tire, they just handle "different" they say!  Lol
They reemed me good when I critisized their reasoning. I even posted a article from tire manufacturer engineers about why it's a bad idea to put a car ture on the back of a motorcycle.

"Enginneers and designers don't know shit about real world experience" they said.  Rolleyes

A lot of Gold Wing riders do the CT thing too.
