Ever see an old bike you sold ?

I did yesterday. My 01 Triumph. Nice to see the guy riding it in November. No new scuffs, tires still the same so low mileage. But it got me thinking. I really loved that bike and in fact miss the odd measure of HP and touring comfort it gave. Sporty it was NOT ! But IF I bought another example. Did the Penske shock and fork upgrades and ... and ...

Sellers regret? Nostalgia?  Or a genuine affection that needs pursuing ?  I don't know

For the record I sold it at very close to 90,000 km so it seemed like time. But ... I miss the Triumph 955 very much.

I've seen 4 of my previous mounts either on the road or in classifieds over the past few years.  One of which the guy who bought pilled on 45k in short order.  I was glad to see he put it to good use.  The guy who bought my VTX ended up moving down the street from me a year later.  It was embarassingly loud when I had it, he made it louderer  .  I passed my old ST1300 (recognized the top case) with the new owner and SO on the back, that made me smile.  I'll likely be seeing the old DR650 again soon.  I sold that one to a snowbird, who are arriving in droves here now.

Never really felt any regret, as I typically enjoy the next ride as much or more then the last.  Maybe that old XS650 cafe project I never finished would make me think twice.  I spent a lot of time modding those r6 rearsets to fit that thing.

When I came back to motorcycles it was on my first new bike, a 1989 Honda Hawk NT650.
I rode that bike all over northeast North American with not a failure of any kind. I was a wonderful bike!
When I sold it, it had 70,000 km's on the clock and still running like a top. I was taken by the new Honda 919 (CB900F up here) so bought one and still have it.
Whenever I see the Hawk now, I now wish I had kept it.

It only happened once... well twice, that I saw my old bike.... sold it to my then brother in law who in turn sold it to my brother after my brother sold it I never saw it again.
I am not one who changes bike every season or so... I imagine the bike I own now will go for parts when I am done with it. With just over 226,000 kms  now there is no resale valve for the average person to want it.

I regularly see a 1980 HD FLH that I sold a few years ago.
It had 100K+ when I sold it and it looks as good as ever.
Regrets? Only when we attend bike night. It always got a lot of attention.

I sold my 1982 Yamaha 550 Seca a few years ago; since then, I've seen at it go past at least once (it, or an identical bike...hmmm...).

No feelings of nostalgia, no seller's remorse.  Glad to see it getting ridden, but beyond that, no.

Funny this subject came up! A few weeks ago I was waiting at a red light and saw an interesting bike coming up toward me. I thought "Hey! That looks like an interesting bike, I like the headlight shape."
It had zoomed past before I realized it was my old GS500 that I'd sold two years ago. Same girl riding it, no new scratches visible, she was booting it too!
Nice to know it's being well used.
I've sold lots of others, some to close friends and saw them every day. Others to strangers, and they disappeared.
I'd love to have my S90 back. And my XL125. Oh yeah, and my IT175! It was the BEST. And the 1984 XL250 was great to mess around on.

Hmmm... Pattern here. All old, small, silly fun, dirt bikes. Not a mention of any of the many, many street bikes!
Street bikes are always getting better?

Saw my old 2001 Aprilia Falco a couple of times, each time at the same place, but with different owners.
I saw it at the Cross Roads of Time store at Deals Gap. I asked the rider if he had purchased it from the guy I sold it to, turned out the rider was the Son of who I had sold it to.
Then a year or two later it was there again, this time with a much younger rider. It had gone downhill quite a bit, the chain was complete rust...made me kind of sad.
That was a great bike, good looking, fast, probably the best sounding bike I've ever owned. It was my first sport bike, my first European bike. The only negative was the instrument panel which was butt ugly.

I still use the Falco in my internet identity.

Spent most of  Monday teaching a course, and there sat at the 4th table the guy I sold my 85 FJ1100 to. Couldn't hardly wait for the first break to ask if it was still among the living, it was, sadly just sitting in his garage while he rides  around on his Harley    he should give it back.

Used to see my old RC51 from time to time at bike night.  He has since sold it and I don't know where it went.  Lots of good memories, it was wrecked when I got it and I rebuilt it.  Got my first knee down on it and it took me a long way in the trackday world.  I have since bought another...

Sold my 04 ST1300 (See avatar) in 2010 to a friend when it had 90K+ on it.  

We often ride together, so I see it all the time.  In fact, he was with me in June when I attended the STN National meet in Arkansas.  

That bike now has 140K+ on it.  The only problem that I'm aware he had with is electrical issues with the heated grips that he has now sorted out.

Wow, that brings back memories.  I had one of those for about 75,000 km.  Thought it was the fastest thing on wheels till I picked on the wrong Porche.
Back on topic, I sold my minty ZX9 to some yokel who promptly painted it flat black, and chopped off the mirrors and muffler.

I've seen my RZ350 up for sale a couple times in the past 10 years. More recently, my TT600 was for sale on Craigslist. Unfortunately it was no longer pristine: had been low-sided and the seat release mechanism was broken/hacked.

Sold my 82 Honda 900F with 36 k on it in 91 to an older gentleman, who died about one year later. His son took it over, and his mother ended up moving next to my father about two years ago.They got to talking and discovered who owned the bike. She gave me some pictures of it and it looks just like the day I sold it.

Saw my old F8 online. Still sittin at SGPower where I traded it. Just checked again and it's still there unless they haven't updated their website in a while. They're probably just asking too much for the 55,000 kms on it.
