Between my girlfriend and I we have 5 sets of riding gear and three helmets. (4 sets are mine for commuting and riding in various weather: leather jacket and pants, perforated leather, textile jacket and pants, and a one piece textile suit...two helmets, current one and older one so I can rotate them when things are sweaty). My girlfriend loves to ride with me, but we're talking about getting her own bike next summer.

Anyway, currently its all hung in the closet in my daughter's bedroom since she doesn't have very many clothes at my house, but I'm thinking about setting up either a hanging gear shelf or wardrobe in my garage.

What do you guys/ gals with lots of gear do for storage? and please post pics!

Hall closet for jackets, pants, suits, back protectors.  There is still a little space for a few actual jackets like are supposed to be there.

Set of plastic shelves from Home Depot in the laundry/mud room off the garage to store helmets (bicycle + motorcycle), gloves, and heated gear.

Mostly, I store my helmet on my head, my jacket on my back, boots on feet, and my pants on my ass...

When they can't be there, then they're usually in my cedar-lined walk in.

Helpful, I know...

I put a wire shelf up in the garage, next to the bikes. Most of the gear hangs from that (both mine and the girl's) and our helmets sit on top of it. Awkward to hang things (rain gear when not in a saddlebag, the bottom half of my two-piece leathers) are in tubs on some gorilla shelves next to it.

Her race leathers get to live in the guest room closet most of the time, since the shelf isn't situated to hang full length stuff.

Gear is right by the bikes when we're leaving. ":)

Two full size storage closets in garage, one for helmets and gloves, the other to hang gear.  Most of it actually makes it into the bins.

I don't have enough closet space for all my gear.
So I've been keeping my eye on one of these for the past few months.
And just today was really considering buying it with next paycheck:

I hung a bunch of wire shelves up all over the garage. It really help organize the garage in general but everything next to the bike is my shelves.  Bigok

There's another shelf just above the garage door railing. The other side of the garage has shelves at that level across the length.

I'm still organizing it but it's nice to have a place to put things without my wife worrying about it.

I'm in mid move so at the moment my bike is in upstate NY and I'm working in New Mexico where I have access to a couple of company bikes.  As a result my gear is draped over a chair in my New Mexico office.  In the past, when I've been living in the same state as my bike I've just left my gear either draped over the bike or in the saddle bags during the ridding season and in the hall closet in the winter months.

I took a spare bedroom and turned it into a gear locker/workout room. On one wall I installed two clothes rods (one high, one low) with an 18 inch shelf over both. All my riding gear, work equipment and the wife's "seasonal" clothes are hung there. I have the treadmill and spin bike in the room also. Took a room that was being used for nada and made it the most useful room in the house.

We have a "mud room" off the garage for all this type of stuff.  It keeps the mess out of the house, when you come in from the barn, from playing in the snow, or from riding.  We've installed a few of those wire shelves from Lowe's that include a clothes bar for hanging coats.  The shelf works good for hats & helmets.  We have another smaller shelf for gloves.

It's pretty handy, but the insects still love to visit that room because of the lower temp in summer, high temp in winter, and lack of activity.  I've never found a "chompy pider" in my helmet so I'm safe so far.

I've got several 4'x8' grid wall racks on the wall that you can attach all kinds of hooks, baskets, shelves, etc. on in my 2-car garage.  One side is dedicated to MC gear, has my wife's road bike and some other random stuff.  Other side holds my leaf blower, weed wacker, 6' alum ladder, brooms, mops, etc.  This is the kind of stuff you see in retail shops.

I still have a bunch of wasted space in the back of my garage, I need some shelving up high to hold some other crap.

A lot depend upon what space you have.

If there is extra space to dedicate to your gear, the answers are easy.  Shelves, wall hooks, freestanding closet, wire shelves, whatever.

It gets more difficult if you have to shoehorn your gear in.  I went from a 3200 sq/ft house in GA to a 1400 sq/ft house in CA.  This sucked.  I have a set of hooks above where I park my cycle in the garage, and 1/2 a shelf to put my helmet and the gear I am currently wearing.  So, I pretty much stopped buying more gear and am using what I have, which is actually working out pretty well.  Who really needs 14 jackets anyway?

Having gone from a 1,000sqft apartment to a 2600sqft house with a garage and 3 walk in closets, we now keep the in-season stuff in the coat closet and the out of season gear goes in the spare bedroom closet.

I hope this doesn't mean the SO will try to pick up even more gear because we have room for it.  Rolleyes  Right now all the clothes and gear fits in one of the spare bedroom closets (we're redoing the master closet).

Took a couple of the hooks that are used to hang bikes from the ceiling in a garage, hung them about 6 feet apart from the ceiling my workshop.  Put a piece of metal pipe between them....instant coat/suit/pants hanging rack.

Took a couple of the plastic J hooks used to hang PCV pipe for plumbing....bought at home depot for less than a dollar each.....nailed them into the workshop wall, instant helmet hangers

Took a couple of plastic tubs/with snap on lids...use them to store extra stuff like liners, gloves, rain suit, etc. that i don't use on a regular basis.

I've got one of those lightweight metal shelving units in one corner of my bedroom. It looks fugly but it works.

Fortunately, I am ruthless when it comes to getting rid of old gear. I will sell it cheap or give it away when I'm done with it. So I don't have a ton of stuff.

I built a closet in my basement man cave / computer room for all the jackets pants liners ect. The helmets and gloves, luggage are in the garage in a unit I built there, that way I can select what I take along when I get ready to leave on my preflight       preride inspection  Smile Wink
i didn't have enough room in trth to combine it into one area and this works really well for me so I am happy with what I have done , back in 97 when I moved here.

Between my wife and I we have a ton of gear. She probably has 6 helmets if not more. We have an old cedar wardrobe in a corner of the garage. It's got a drawer in the bottom we use for all the gloves, then hand up jackets etc inside. I also have some hooks on the garage wall so my most used gear gets hung there. A couple shelves over our chest freezer hold a lot of the most used helmets.

Put the shelf on the wall and with the wooden shelves. They hold our Olympia jackets and pants, mesh jackets, Bell RS1's, HJC CL16's boot, gloves, and the soft luggage. Also the GF's bike jeans, new boots & Suzuki leather jacket are squeeze in there now, too.

My Dad and I built some cabinets in when we built my pole barn. Actually the gear cabinet was in and filled before the the inside walls or anything else was started inside.
