Just 3 of us so far. The route is 130ish miles apx. 40 dirt and 90 street. Thought I'd mention it. Maybe Miles or any other of the wacky LoSoCal crew are itching to get some more dirt miles on their street bikes  Wink

Meet 9am for breakfast at the Ranch Side Cafe : http://goo.gl/maps/Vuq0e

If I'd had more notice I could maybe have jumped in on this one, but sadly I'll have to pass it up.

Right.  So I got home around 3pm.  My brand spankin' new Pirelli MT16 rear tire tore off one knob completely, chunked two others and split three more.

So much for MT16's holding up to the mighty power of a WR250R.

(*actually, I'm pretty sure it was the near 200 miles of pinned throttle 80mph riding on the freeway that destroyed the rear tire.  The front is fine.  Guess I need to keep looking for the right rear...  Gonna try the new XCMid-Hard DOT this time.)

So... fellow LABiker Cheese (aka Steven) called this ride maybe a week ago. I said I wanted to join as long as the route did not require knobbies. We figured out a route that was pretty much all 'fire-roads' and so off we went. Cheese was running his Suzuk 400SuperMotard with street tires that were looking like slicks near the end. I was running my DL1K with Anakees, getting thin since I loaned it out to a friend for a loop of the South Sierras a few weeks back.  The other two riders that showed up, LAbiker Dcon on a klr-250 and Robert on his WR-250r seemed to have more proper tires and light bikes (at least compared to mine), no overkill on the HP...   Lol

I pretty much spent most of the time in the dirt in first gear. Every-time I popped it into second and started getting some speed on, I started worrying more about sand patches and braking distances and the fact the the bike plus me and my fat-belly weighs in at around 750 lbs. So, I pretty much just putted along at 20mph  or so, but I enjoyed the views and didn't crash. Win!  Bigok

Here's some pics...

Cheese!

Camera zooms test on Rocks

Dcon left, Robert right

We saw another sign on the other end of this section of road that said exactly the same thing, yeah we ignored it and kept on keeping on. There was a slight washout of the road towards the end, it might have been a bit narrow for a cager to pass, but no troubles for a moto-crew.

This is a full resolution clip of the above photo, no camera zoom. It's the new crop of windmills (West?) of Tehachpi pass. I could actually see clearly the Tehachapi windmills as well from that site with my naked eye. This is like 20+ miles across the desert for this spot. Turns out my eyes be better than the camera because the Tehachapi windmills are all blurry when I tried to clip on them...

I see nothing in those pics that I wouldn't have ridden on my S1000RR.    Razz

They never take pictures of the rough stuff while it's happening.    There were a few spots I would not have wanted to risk your CF Rims on.
