A rider did get killed in practice this year but fatalities are rare. Macau is usually won by IOM and "real roads" racers though Kevin Schwantz won it twice IIRC and Josh Hayes finished fifth in his only attempt (Attack Kawasaki ZX10R in 2004 or 2005). Hayes said it was fun but once was enough. Miles' pal Jeremy Toye has raced there a couple of times and finished in the top five (I think).

The organizers usually pay all or part of participants travel and there is appearance money for the top name riders. I think the winning rider and crew get a big check and an eight day beach resort vacation in Thailand or some place. The Macau GP has been taking place for something like 40 years and is mostly a car race which featured F3 racers (Ayrton Senna won at least once) and sports cars. Bikes were added later. Crazy event.

You should see the unedited high-res footage we got from Toye's third place year before last.  Talk about mind-blowing...  I wish I had a copy so I could upload it.

Kevin only went to Macau once.  He won going away, doing wheelies.
Jeremy has a podium and a 4th, that I recall.

Those guys must touch body parts (shoulder, elbow) on the barriers while hanging off at times. Just insane.

Correct.  Of course, it helped that Schwantz was on his factory 500cc GP bike...

Any chance you can take this down?  That is the rider who died during practice...so basically you are looking at a dead guy.

True, but it wasn't like he was the only 500GP bike there.  Just he was the one with the biggest...talent that day  Lol
