MCN might have caught the 2013 BMW R1200 90th anniversary testing

http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/News/newsresults/New-bikes/2012/November/nov2312-bmw-confirm-custom-concept/

The bike is more a R1200R bared to essentials than a more expected retro bike. More Ducati Monster than GT1000.

The engine will be the current air cooled boxer and not next R1200GS air/water version.

Unusual in a R series BMW the conventional USD fork.

Wunderlich, who has access to fresh information, bets it will be like that and is already designing some accessories:

At what price point?
Will be the entry level boxer or will it be prices up with the HP2?

It's beautiful and would be a great platform to build upon if ya want a cafe stye bike......

I am very happy to see them use a traditional usd front end.  Thumbsup

I rather like the telelever front end.  I learned to "feel" what it was doing rather quickly.  When I learned to interpret it, I trusted it more than any conventional fork I've ever owned including my current Ninja.  My cornering speed was always higher.  IMO, it works better.

Meh.

Thanks for your meaningful critique of the bike.  Rolleyes

I rather like the styling think it's a nice modern update for the R12R line. Unfortunately the pics that Wunderlich put out reflect their add ons so it's a bit tough to see what the OEM version will look like but I think you can get a decent enough idea.hat really looks good.  I hope they offer a version with the wire rims as I think t I'm not necessarily too hip on the conventional front fork but it wouldn't stop me from buying the bike.

...a Japanese manufacturer might take the motor, castrate it to about 110 hp and stick it in a cheaper, heavier chassis with low-spec suspension and brakes and slice an ‘R’ or two off the name. That’s not how Aprilia roll

The Duolever fork on my K12R was the best front suspension I've ever ridden for feel.  I could feel what the tire was doing, rather than what the fork is doing, as with telescopics.

I only rode a K1300 one time with the duo.  I did like it, just never owned one.  Lots of people mistake front end dive for "feel."  What I like about BMW's unconvention front ends is the reduced dive.  I agree that I feel more of the tire on these front ends.

I welcome the conventional fork on this new R1200 because:

- it cleans the lines of the bike

- is an alternative to the R1200R that will stay in the line up.

From what can be seen between the MCN photos and the Wunderlich drawings, besides the Wunderlich seat and tank bag the bike will be just like the dark grey.

Looks a lot better with the USD forks, I agree.  Now to lose those spokes...

I agree.  Who wants to deal with tubes* and the add'l weight?  Go with a cool looking alloy.  BMW makes some neat alloy wheels.  Us them.

I agree with you. But the bike caught by MCN appears to have alloy wheels.

I'm hoping this bike becomes the entry level of the boxer range. The most exciting BMW of the last years, the HP2 Megamoto, was too expensive.

I think it's gorgeous, but if the Telelever front suspension is as good as they say, and as nice as the K1300GT I test rode, I'd like to see them use the technology.

Not that I'm affording one anytime soon, but the R1200R with hardbags I threw a leg over a local dealer felt really, really nice. Perfect ergos for me.

Yes it will if you have $799.  I'm hoping Santa comes through on getting me one for my R.
