I'm selling the FJR this weekend and seriously considering a ZZR 1200. I'll be able to use the needed extra cash. I test rode one a few years ago that was stock. There was definitely a bit of a reach to the bars, but that was before I got the FJR, which has sporty ergos also. I've gotten very comfortable with the FJR over the last three years, but do have genmar risers on it. For those of you who might be familiar with both bikes, do you think when putting Genmars on the ZZR, it might have the same reach as the FJR with Genmars? Any info would be much appreciated.

No. It won't even be close.  That, and you'll also have less legroom.  The ZZR will be a lot more aggressive than the relatively upright FJR.  That's not to say that you won't be able to get comfortable on the ZZR, but it will be quite a change, even with risers added.  I went from a VFR800 to a CBR1100XX to a BMW K1200S to an FJR1300 and now am back on a K1300S.

I don't know your dimensions but here's a comparison of stock FJR to stock ZZR using a 6 foot rider with a 32 inch inseam.

You can go on this website and play around with rider dimensions, bar risers etc and get an idea of how the bikes will compare.  Not as good as sitting on them side by side but a helpful tool.

Don't forget to budget for a seat rebuild. You will enjoy the ZZR's engine, however. Drool

At 5-11, I found the reach to the bars fine without risers but that seems to be the minority vote.
+1 for the seat. Corbin makes a good one, if you can deal with 'em...
Great bike for long, fast miles: you'll love it.  Thumbsup

I'm 5'-10" 34 sleeve, 32 inseam. The only time the ergos bother me is in my hands/wrists when slabbing at less than 60mph for more than 1/2 hour. I think that has more to do with the angle of the bars. I have also have a Corbin that I find pretty comfy although I may try an air hawk for extended rides.

Zed definitely will be an adjustment coming off an FJR.  I love mine because I think it strikes the perfect balance between a big sport bike and a sport touring bike.  It will be lighter than the FJR (but it is still a heavy bike).  I suggest making the same mods others have mentioned - burn the stock seat and replace with a Corbin Gunfighter and add Gen Mar bar risers.  With that you should have the right balance.  Even with these mods you will find the position much more sporty.  This is a good thing if you enjoy sport riding.  Not to mention you will notice you are not grinding metal on the road anymore.

Also, expect the power to be different.  While the feejer is no slouch, Zed stomps it in the upper range.  If you run this bike around 8000 RPM, hang on.  145 to the rear wheel.
