I know there are several remote controls on the market -- any experiences with one or more?  I have an iPhone 5; do the remotes work with that?

What are you wanting to control. The iPhone with something else or a device controlled via the iPhone?

My AV receiver can be controlled via an iOS app through the wifi/LAN.

Doh!  I guess I should have provided more details.

This is what I want to do:  Ride along with earbuds plugged into my iPhone and the iPhone in my pocket.  On top of the tank bag, or near the grips, have a remote that I can control the volume, mute the sound, or skip tracks, while wearing gloves.  That is about it.

On one helmet I have a Sena setup which I like, though mostly for riding with Dot; the intercom feature works well.  However, for all my other riding I don't need the features of the Sena and I just want to listen to music with the ability to control the volume conveniently.

You can get a second Sena base plate for about $4.00 more than the remote linked above. I think I would just do that. Unless you have a bunch of other helmets.

I've used a Etymotic hf2 with remote and mic, but it's nowhere near glove friendly.
Why not just push the cool, black button on your Iphone to engage Siri, and let her do the work?

I don't believe that particular model is compatible with iPhones, just iPods. The next generation, however, is compatible with iPhones and iPads. http://www.buyijet.com/remotes.html

I set shuffle on a play list and let it run. I control the volume/mute via the audio of the bike.

I have a MixIt 2 feeding multiple inputs into the aux audio input of my Honda/Clarion CB/Intercom.

I used one of these for a while (switched to android), it doesn't get particularly good reviews but it worked fine for me. Plus its waterproof and designed for use with gloves.

I had the iJet remote when I still had my phone and ipod. It worked well. Sometimes it took a moment to pair but that was ok. I liked that it had a pass-through for the power on it. I kept the remote zip-tied to my tank bag. Easy and reliable even with gloves.
