Update:
Wore the boots around on Saturday including a trip to the grocery store, drop off then pick up the truck for service, movie at the local theater w/ wifey and all associated travel related movements. Driving took a couple minutes as the boots don't have the same feel and flex as the rest of my stuff. I only mention it as a point of reference. It was not uncomfortable nor did it require any changes to body position or anything. It just felt different so I noticed it. My feet were comfortable for the entire day. I had no hot spots, no issues with tripping over my own feet, no instances of kicking things I didn't mean to. I had to make a small adjustment to the truck's airbags after I got the truck back and that was done with the boots on. This meant bending and squatting and taking a knee on occasion. All felt fine. At one point, I was even able to use the jack handle (removable) to whack myself in the ankles and side of my foot a couple times just to check protection. Very very happy with that outcome.
Then, just to make sure, I jumped on the XT and zipped around the neighborhood for a minute or two checking shifting and braking while seated and while standing. Not a single problem with reaching around the shifter or brake pedal. Also very happy with that.
While not a day on the bikes, it was a day in the boots which gave me great hope that there won't be any issues with these things. Very happy with the purchase. Planning a multiday offroad excursion in the very near future. Stand by for a detailed review in a couple weeks.
