I typically ride in a 100mile radius around where i live.  I will avoid the congested areas,, because i hate traffic.
Potential job opportunity.  Thoughts on the area in general are welcome too.

Thanks guys.  Smile

Many excellent riding roads in that area. Attended a Rider magazine rally in the area (1997?) and have ridden thru there about a dozen times over the years on the way to Americade and other events.

"Go West young man", or North.  IMO, the best roads in PA are right up the middle of the state. (and a lot more than 10 miles) North will get you into the Poconos and Adirondacks.  Both of which I have not ridden, but lots of friends say are great.  PA125 does have a good reputation in E. PA. but that is a LOT more than 10 miles too.  IMO, you will find some nice local back roads almost anywhere in PA, but you are a bit too far East for the really good stuff.

Traffic on main arteries can be bad in Stroudsburg at times.  Nearby Deleware Water Gap has some nice roads, including Old Mine Rd on the Jersey Side.  It's not far to other good roads such as Hawk's Nest by Port Jervis on the way to the beautiful Catskill Mountains.  Harriman Park, Bear Mountain, and the Storm King are about 100 miles away in the historic and scenic Hudson Valley NY area.  Poconos riding is right there by Stroudsburg, and PA Coal Country riding is not much further.

+1

I'm south of there, but as stated by some riding is better north & west of there.  But if in that area (again stay away from downtown area) - Rt. 191, 715, 447 are some decent roads

Decent local riding, but more congestion on the roads than there should be (at least feels that way to me).  715 (I think) south out of Tannersville is a fun run.  Always found the riding in Northwest NJ better than the eastern edge of PA.  521 and 519 in particular.  No traffic and better pavement.  Catskills are probably the best really good riding for day rides from there.

If you have a PA license and get awards outside of the state they are only fines (no points).

And the points go away rather quickly here compared to other places.

Good to know info!  Thanks guys.

I grew up in upstate NY so i know Catskills and A'dacks very well.  Even though I live in CT, i get to each area about 4-5 times a year..and i consider a 400 mile loop very do-able in a days time.

If the roads are better 100 miles away, then that is where i'd day ride to.

I doubt the congestion is much worse than here in CT.  Every road here is a 30 and 40mph and there are too many people.

If the job goes anywhere, i'll def give a shout!   Bigok

Stick to county roads... US and State roads tend to be congested in the area. I would recommend you plot your route through State Forests and State Game lands for a better ride through the area.

Rt 715 is a good ride and if you take Rt 191 up to Canadensis you will find some fun roads.  Keep away from Rt 611 between Stroudsburg and Mt. Pocono.  Always jammed.
I have a place in Paradise Valley.
