I must be doing something wrong.

Using the Apple maps app - the one that is crap - it gives me turn by turn directions through my Jeep's stereo. Mutes the music for the direction.  Awesome.

I loaded the google maps ap yesterday, and while it said the sounds were activated, nothing through my stereo.  But it also made sure that none of the music could stream either...

Any ideas?  I have my iphone 4s connected via the USB cable.  Works perfectly this way with everything apart from google maps.

I just use it for reference. I don't use it for turn by turn.

I'm hoping Apple gets it together with their maps app. I really want to like them again!

I was very happy to see the GMaps app, and so far, so good. I need good maps for my job, and Apple was failing horribly. Oddly enough, the one I had the best luck with is the Nokia Drive app on my Lumia 900 Windows 7 phone. Absolutely stellar, even when I ran it against the GMAPS on my Galaxy S2.

Yep, I'm a huge mobile nerd...

I'm happy that Google Maps returned to my phone.  They clearly have the superior database for searching and finding locations.  Apple maps just does not cut the mustard every time.  It would be nice if they had an iPad formatted version, too, but that will likely come in time.

So far the turn by turn has worked fine in my truck - but I use the analog headset jack connected to AUX and not a USB or BT because it's an older truck.  I have not gotten to try it yet on the bike with BT.

Check out waze for the iphone. I run it on my android but it's the same on the iphone. Shows real time traffic telemetry from other users although subject to their fat fingering.

Didn't download Google maps.  Been perfectly happy with the Apple maps thus far, the turn by turn, and GPS functionality for when I'm not actually using my GPS...  Shrug

Wish it would actually use the app when you click the google link, rather than sending you to a page saying you can download the app.

TBH, the failure of that integration was probably the most irritating thing about the apple product. The the other flaws impacted me much less.
