A Uraling in the snow I did go
«

Last night we had about 4" of the white fluffy stuff, much to Baxter's glee. After shoveling the drive and sidewalk I devoured gf's breakfast of eggs, pancakes, and sausage.
Then it was time to put on the heated gear, pull up the lap robe, tug down the balaclava and set out for a Ural ride. I stuck to backroads between Tumalo and OR 126, including dirt roads. Well, dirt underneath the snow. Spent about 90 minutes before cold feet made me head back to the barn.
Only had one "yikes!" moment when turning from OB Riley Road onto Swalley Road where the move was more slide than turn as I came in too fast...I was slowing down from all of about 30 mph at the time. Lock front brake, release, repeat; keep rear and hack brake anchored; blip throttle; watch SUV in mirror that is bearing down. Always an interesting feeling to have front tire going one way while hack would prefer another destination. Finally got outfit pointed toward Swalley Road, release all brakes and go forward with just a small amount of yawing.
Now time to see if either the Lions or Cards can score, let alone actually win. We'll see if gf or I laugh last.

I have found the touchscreen on my iPhone doesn't work when your fingers are cold.
I've goofed around drifting the Ural a bit on gravel roads in the summer, but I'm always a bit skittish to get too carried away. The other challenge with riding in snow is wondering when oncoming traffic might lose it. We had three fatalities on Fri/Sat from folks losing control and sliding across the center line, one crash was just north of Redmond on US 97 and the other was by McKenzie Bridge on OR 126.
But I still enjoy being out in the wind when the two-wheelers are hibernating in their garages, wired to their battery tenders while visions of summer dance in their instrument panels.

I remember me and one of my Cossacks being the only vehicle in Cardiff-apart from Land Rovers-that was moving in several foot of snow. I delivered bread and milk to stranded old peeps on it.

The snow has skipped us so far; if there's more this weekend I'll get out and snap a few pics of Rooskie Iron in its native element...and an expatriate Sonoran Desert dweller out of his.

I dare you.
TOday was my sons last day in school, Christmas Holiday, SO of course I had to pick him up at school in the hack.
We live less than 4 miles from school but I think it too us 2 hours to make it home (too many places to go and he keeps finding more)

THe guy who owned it before me put Duc mufflers and an /8.
If you can block out the sound of the trans the engine & mufflers got a real good note
