I I maintain my 2008 Sportster was among the most fun and enjoyable bikes I ever owned. Fast? nope. Razor sharp handling? nope. But man oh man, was it fun to
go ripping up
slow poke in the twisties on that thing.

To the engineers here (or anyone else who may know),
Why are the small displacement bikes typically parallel twins, as opposed to v-twins? Aside from the Yamaha V Star 250, why don't the other makes utilize the V twin configuration? Is it simply because the parallel design takes less space?

^^^Just a guess, but a vertical twin has one head not two, two cams (maybe) not four, so on and so forth = less $$$.^^^ And I don't think that big hp is needed for a "fun" bike, but if Honda wants to sell these things they ought to make them "better" than many of the older, cheaper used bikes that might be competing with for buyers $$$ or they will NOT sell worth a crap.

Yes, because riding track speeds on track-spec bikes wishing and pretending you were on the track is really the best idea on the roads.
Also, you've never ridden with me, so your idea of slow may not be representative of others' skills, paces and enjoyment.
Thank god, you're here to make every god damned thing a competition.

Well, yeah, sure, ok... I mean, that's a start.
But in general terms, aren't you aware of the measurement formula for hp? You need revs. Modern I4 600s routinely rev to 12k, 15k, 16k+ and that's how they develop higher numbers... from piddly little torque numbers.
An engineer who has a passion for motorcycles should understand this.

You know...i wonder what the red line on the little 500 is?
Maybe what it lacks in HP it makes up in torque?
It may just be a fun little city bike.
That said you guys have to admit that spinning an engine at those speeds at night is very very sexy!
The blue flames out the booty is very sexy!

Relax dude , you throw Rossi or Lorenzo on the Sportster and tell them to ride it at 100 % ,,,,,,, they would still look like
slow poke
to casual and unbiased observer .
BTW , how long was the line of RVs behind you when you were ripping those corners on Hd ?

I'll giggle about that on the way to work tomorrow while I'm carving up traffic on my 16hp 200.
