VisorDown Motorcycle news: New bikes
Honda NC700's bigger brothers planned
Imminent release of 'large-sized models with a new concept'
Posted: 21 September 2012
As well as revealing the plans for a MotoGP-inspired road bike Honda's president today announced that the firm is set to unveil a series of big bikes aimed at touring and commuting.
Takanobu Ito said: “Following the New Mid series [which encompasses the NC700S and X as well as the Integra scooter] Honda will introduce a series of large-sized models with a new concept, which enable customers to more easily enjoy daily commuting and weekend touring. This stylish new series will be equipped with a 'torqueful' engine, low seat height which increases the ease of handling, and a comfortable ride with high stability in manoeuvring. The production of the first model in this new series will begin in February 2013 at the Kumamoto factory, Honda's global motorcycle production operation, and sales will begin from North America.”
An image flashed on screen during the presentation at this point showed a stylised silhouette sketch of a long, low touring bike with what appeared to be faired-in front and rear wheels.
He also reconfirmed Honda's plans to enter the Dakar rally next year with a CRF450X-derived prototype bike that is already being tested and will have a trial run in the Morocco Rally next month.
On a wider scale, he said Honda plans to expand its business to make more than 25 million motorcycle sales in the 2017 financial year from April 2016-March 2017.

Call me cynical, but the description sounds a lot like the DN-01...
And let's also remember that "large" motorcycle means something very, very different across the ENTIRE world than it means here in the USA.

Bigger than the NC700X is going to in fact be a big bike. It sounds like they're describing something more like a GS or RT.

I'm giving Honda the benefit of the doubt that they learned SOMETHING from the DN-01 'exercise' (besides, I kinda liked it, except for automatic and price).
And 'larger' here, means bigger than 700, no matter where you are.

Touring / commuting sounds more like a PC800 to me, and I'd be very interested in a modern PC950.

The prices was *the* only thing keeping me off the DN01. It's a $7500 bike, not a $15000 bike. Even at $10k, it was a stretch.

Yeah, that holds zero interest for me. Unless faired really means shrouded like, say, the Goldwing and PC800 cover up the rear wheel.

Honda learned that building a heavy, slow, auto transmission bike that wasn't a crusier, or a sport bike, nor a scooter, painting it purple and naming it DN-O1 couldn't be sold for $16,000.
They continue to design motorcycles they feel the world needs, not what the world wants, at least here in the USA.
I saw a VRF1200 auto at a MSTA rally this fall. I pointed at it and stated "Unicorn", that's how rare they are. Most didn't get the joke.

Actually, the description sounds a lot like the F6B already being discussed in another thread. Given that the post on Visor Down was 3 months ago, there's a good chance that's it.

Excellent point. People (myself included) need to pay more attention to the dates these articles are discovered and released.

Except the article says 'new concept', which is designed and tuned for high mpg. It also says production doesn't start until Feb, so certainly not the '13 F6B.

I would love to see a PC950! Little more power, FI, and easier to remove plastics and I'd be all over it.
Then again I've owned 2 PC's

I think the "X" can weigh that much with all the options including luggage installed. But it is more like 500 wet without all the goodies. I think.

I know the manual X weighs 471 wet and the DCT model weighs 506 lbs wet. That's without 40 lbs of luggage, crash bars, light bar, and touring windshield.
