Getting a pretty serious dump of snow today with more to come. The skiing is going to be amazing this weekend !

I just measured 18cm of new snow at my house since this morning and looks like another 30 or so overnight through the morning. If you are a skier, ya gotta love it.

Actually got enough snow and freezing rain here in Vancouver to be troublesome.

The shiny new Mann bridge was actually dropping giant damaging slush balls on cars, from ice buildup on the support cables far above.  Actually injured somebody, they ended up closing the bridge.

You can bet there's some engineer somewhere having a miserable day, and a bunch of lawyers looking forward to a great one.

Yes, it's been snowing.  I'm typing this in a hotel room in Vernon, after one of the worst winter drives I've ever done, over the Paulson (Bonanza) Pass.  Last minute work...I'm not happy about it...I should be skiing!

Driving in Vancouver in a snow storm was the most amusing thing I have ever done.

I watched people try to drive up an icy hill and when their car spun out, they abandoned it like a crack ho with a syphilis canker. I have never laughed so hard in my life.

Turning into an epic dump of snow here. I managed to dig out be have yet to see a plow this year in our little out of the way neighbourhood.  Well over 2 feet of snow on the roads and an exciting 3 km commute for me to work.  Lol

The town of Castlegar is amazing though. By 8 they have the roads clear and even most of the sidewalks. My daughter always complains that they never get a school closure day as a result, although was pretty darn close. Different story in the regional district where I live, which has a contract for snow removal from some cheap bastard contractor called Yellowhead Road and Bridge. Last year they plowed our street once. Ah the challenges of living betwixt and between the sticks.  Lol

Calling for another 20 -30 cm today. Bring it on !!

One of my buddies at work found me a used snowblower for super cheap a month or two ago, and told me I was definitely going to need it. I thought my shiny new snow shovel was going to be enough...but the blower was too good a deal to pass up, so I bought it anyways. OMG am I glad I have this thing! I carry the shovel with me, so I can get into my driveway after the highway plows block it off with a 30 inch high berm.
Yeah, we have a good 2 feet of snow in the yard now.  I hope there isn't much more coming today! My driveway is about 75 feet long, and uphill, so it's a bit of work to blow it out again.
Back in the South Okanagan they are complaining about the unusual 6 inch snowfall...lol
I don't remember there being this much snow last winter(before I moved here), when I was driving back and forth over the Paulson Pass all the time.  Is this normal? I know it was in Salmo, but I don't remember seeing this much here before...

Getting crapped on in Sudbury right now. I had some running around to do at lunch and at 12:15pm it wasn't even trying to snow. Buy 12:45 their was about 5cm on the roads.

Ya, I love winter. The job search to some point significantly south of here continues.

Edit: Whoops. Typo in the time..

Been here 7 years Dean and have seen snow like this one other time. Usually it comes and goes down here in our valley. The first year we lived here I shovelled my driveway twice !  Four years ago was a big snow and after that I bought a snow blower. The next winter I used it maybe once or twice. Forecast says 25 -30 cm more today and this evening. My guess is more snow for the next week but likely manageable amounts.

Pics later this afternoon.  Bigsmile

So...got home last night, after an even more harrowing drive home from Vernon than the one heading out there.  It was nasty!

Went into the ditch, actually quite close to Bubba's place.  A couple of young guys who were just passing by in a large pickup pulled me out.

Got home just as the power went out.  Had some dinner, then figured I should get the driveway cleared.  Note, I'd completely cleared this area before I'd left four days earler, and then my wife had had a guy plow it the morning before...

Finally got our street ploughed last night. What a mess it was yesterday, I barely made it out to the main road to finish some christmas shopping. I heard the Paulson was not ploughed yesterday. Everyone around here is writing to complain about the contractor.

I came over the Paulson yesterday afternoon/early evening.  It was ploughed...perhaps not well, but hey, it was during an active snowstorm, what can you do?  I had no issues on the highway itself (and only saw one vehicle in the ditch); I had my little incident on Pass Creek Road....

I came over this morning, and it was still not great...lots of ice, and one car on the roof being hauled out of the ditch. Between Grand Forks and Greenwood I hit black ice at least a half dozen times, and there was a Ranger 4x4 balanced on the concrete barrier on the left side of the highway, and an S10 Blazer down the bank on the right opposite it, with both drivers standing around looking a bit sheepish. I'm definitely not impressed with the road maintenance this year.
