I plan on catching the river around the KY/IL state line and follow the river north to Davenport. I just didn't know what side of the river I wanted to be on and would not mind seeing where the Ohio flows into the Mississippi.

Neither side has a lock on goodness (nor boredome).

Be advised, the Great River Road is certainly a road, and it is no doubt near the river, but it ain't so great (although it IS pretty) . . . . . there are better roads closer to, and a little further from, the Big Muddy . . . . ..

The riding, and camping, gets much better when you get into Wisconsin (or in Iowa acress the river) . . . . . . .

There are numerous ferries in greater St Louis area, and a number up in Wisconsin, if that intrigues you . . . .

How much time have you got for the ride? That'll help determine what you can do . . . . .

Depending on route and time there are lots of "must do" roads right here in KY. If you happen to be coming through western KY during weather suitable for camping you can always pitch a tent at my farm, near Pennyrile State Forest Park.

I know it's way early, but in a month or so I'm going to throw out a list of Tenderloin/Hamburger joints for a early fall ride to eat.
Here are a few blogs/forums I peruse.
