My buddy has an '09 CBR 600 and is looking for some hard cases for the bike. While there are plenty of options for cases like Givi I have trouble tracking down any sort of mouting hardware. He would like to eventually go to a 3 case setup but I did think about getting a passenger seat off ebay and mounting a plate to the spare seat but he would rather have something that would allow him a passenger still. Any of you guys do this and find a mounting system for givi or another case system?

thanks,

Joe

I don't think you're going to find much for that bike (the RR).

If it was an earlier F4i, he could order the Hornet 600 Givi racks from the UK. I did that; direct bolt on and work just fine.

Where's he located? I could help make a set if he's local.

this is my hammer. my dad gave it to me. he got it from his dad who got it from his before him. it's been in the family for generations. we've had to replace the handle a few times and the head twice but it priceless because of its family history.

The only ones I know of are the Bags-Connection hard/soft bags with rail mounting system.

Thanks for the link. He's in Connecticut. I was searching but not much coming up. I will run that link by him and see what he says. I have the givi setup and he's envious of the system.

Ventura racks? Not hard luggage, but not sure if you want storage ability or lockable...

He wants something like the givi, lockable that he probably won't remove. I suggested dry bags and the like. In the end probably going to get a passenger seat off ebay and modify it. The problem is I'm in Maryland, if I was closer I could probably figure something out to modify a generic rack. He's not too mechanically inclined so the closer to bolt up it is the better.

Well, if he wants to bring the bike down in Spring and hang out a weekend, I could help him with something. I like building racks; I've done some pretty interesting installs.

Nobody really building hard luggage racks for supersport bikes.
Probably custom fab is the only way to go.

Going to have to look at the weight carrying capacity of the bike also.

The subframes are built for lightness, and hanging three full sized cases off it and loading them might be a problem with vibration and cracking from the stresses of riding.

Keeping the cases smaller and figuring the total loaded weight against the bikes carrying capacity minus the rider would be prudent.

An excellent concern. My CBR turned into a "just look at the throttle and watch it wheelie" with all three cases on it, even when they were empty. The radical changes to the bike's aerodynamics might be pretty unsettling.

That's a strong argument for an either/or setup.  Either carry a passenger and no luggage, or loaded luggage and no passenger.

I didn't think about the aerodynamics. My old heavy bandit doesn't even notice the cases especially off the highway. I think I will encourage a case in the passenger seat area. Givis ate treated for something like 25 pounds anyway so it shouldn't be an issue.

Ton of typos there on my last post. Stupid auto correct. Well to keep the crew updated my dear old cousin, who I wish would sign in and register on this site, went with some soft cases. Thank you to everyone here for you advice.

I would think that a pillion and subframe capable of carrying another person would have no problem carrying a couple bags.  A true race suframe, no, but that wouldn't be the bike stuff lilke this would be on.
