ATGATT even off the road

Got home today, the kids riding the backyard track as usual, then I heard the sound of a two-stroke stop suddenly. I hate that. Seems as though my younger son overshot a corner and did this with his Suzuki and his chest:



His hand is a bit swollen, and his chest protector has white stress marks in it.  Bars are bent, and the rad shroud is toast. All in a days riding at my house, I guess. Glad he wears all his gear, all the time (even if you know the track or trail).

His 'tree hugger' is on the left, in the 'dirt' section of the garage.

I've bounced off enough smaller trees to know that must have really hurt. Glad hes ok.

I'm amazed at how well the gear does protect you considering how flimsy it looks, especially the chest protectors. I hit the ground hard a couple weeks ago. Hard enough that I was a bit loopy from the impact on my head. My chest protector left checkerboard bruises on the back of my shoulder. My right elbow guard tore off and my hip pads as thin as they are protected me enough to walk away with just some ugly bruises. We weren't even on the trials when that happened. We were riding along one of the access roads looking for a couple of our buddies. I'm pretty sure I'd have had a trip to the ER if I hadn't been wearing the gear. I've crashed hard enough that I've ripped the shoulder pad right of a chest protector when I slammed into a boulder once and hardly had a bruise.

The only decision for me with ATGATT and my Drz sm  is, Road race boots or motocross boots.

I mostly settle on the road boots. I do like (and have on numerous occasions made use of) my protective gear

Sure am glad his paw didn't end up lookin like Albie's avatar!

Glad your boys ok. Makes you worry sometime about them. The other day my son and I were out riding on an up hill right hander I just look over my shoulder in time to see my son high side.   Only thing hurt was a bent handle bar so the gear does work.

Glad he is OK. I never ride in the woods without my gear. I have ripped boots (yes you can do that), broken chest protectors ( +14 ribs) , broken knee/shin gaurds, broken helmets, ripped jerseys and pants, and bent handgaurds. I have had far more crashes off road than on!

The kid across the street from me finally convinced dad to buy him an 80. He was out there in tennis shoes, no chest protector, etc. So I dug through our old stuff and found him the rest of the gear he needed. I knew it would go to use someday.
