Rides... purchases... material upgrades / maintenance to bike... competition?

What big things do STN members have planned for 2013?

I'm trying to make this the year I ride either Beartooth Pass or Hwy 1.

I'm also overdue for some my 191 goodness on the AZ-NM border as I haven't ridden that since '04 or so.

8-10 days or so in Nor Cal the WCRM and some of them Sierra Passes ... oooh yeah.

Finish sorting out the idle issues on the Moto Guzzi - I do believe I have figured out a fix !

More local riding every week.

Possibly pick up a DRZ400s on the cheap and get back on a DS bike

Eastern Oregon and Idaho loop with some overnights in Baker City and Lolo Pass in mid September.

Probably not doing a long distance ride in 2013 due to recent situations (my brother's family wants me to come to Virginia as do I but at least right now money's tight). But I plan on more local single and two day rides.

I'll be riding to work as often as possible. If all goes well, there might be three or four saturday afternoon rides to get like ice cream or something.

hopefully more trips than this year. so far all I have planned is a weekend in Redlodge/Beartooth hwy. a couple weekends exploring back roads in the Big Horns and maybe some backroad exploration in Colorado. I hope to get a late summer/early fall trip in with my friend Jeff, maybe New Mexico?

Lots more dual-sport and trail rides on the 530. I'd like to do some AMA dual-sport events too. I need to get in shape to do that, so I should get off my butt and hit the gym at work. Better conditioning means less crashing (old guys don't bounce well). Shane Watts is coming to the region in the late spring and I'd like to attend one of his two-day schools.

Hard to believe I'm a little burned out on the regional twisty goodness (WV, southeast OH), but I'm going to hit the Catskills (ESTN?) at least once and would like to spend several days riding in eastern Kentucky. Perhaps some Hocking Hills exploration in Ohio too to/from the Kentucky ride. Just basically try to hit new stuff and stuff I haven't been on in a long time. Mix things up more rather than just ride the (very good) Usual Suspects.

I don't really expect to change the stable next year, but my eye has started to wander and I'm looking at adventure-touring bikes as an eventual replacement for the 950. The upcoming KTM 1190 Adventure sits at the top of that short list, but it might not show up until 2014. The Triumph Explorer and Tiger are contenders too.

Good reading so far.   Bigok

My current plans are as follows:

*  Ride to Daytona and back for the end of Bike Week and catch all the AMA races at Daytona Speedway on Saturday including the 200

*  Fly to Austin to catch up with other STNrs for a weekend of MotoGP in April

*  STN Region 6 Spring Meet in May

*  Week to week and 1/2 solo trip in late September which will most likely be to South Dakota and Wyoming via the Hartland and come back through the U.P. and down through SE Ohio to get back home.

EDIT to add:  IF (and it's a big "if") the year end bonus pool is larger than expected, I will look to acquire a Ural this year.  The current plan is to add a Ural to the stable in 2014 contingent upon being able to save up for one.

Got some winter carb maintenance to do, new floats and needle related wear parts.

Go on some day loop rides like 101 to 36 to 3 to 299 to home.

Do more motogeocaching.

Go to the BMWMOA National.

And hopefully score a beat BSA A10.

I'm bailing out of the R6 Spring meet to go with a bunch of buddies to Marietta that same weekend.

Lee Parks Phase 2 in June and the Canadian FJR Rally that same weekend (luckily their close together).

Shooting for the Arctic Circle in July - depends if I can get the time off.

Nothing for Aug. Maybe SE Ohio again

Sept: Maggie Valley NC for the Easter Owners Meet (always a great time!)

In between all of this, I'm looking for some decent trail rides.

I'd really like to start taking some moto trips again. Even if it is just over a weekend, once or twice.

Check out the Black Market forum on Soviet Steeds for used Urals.  Getting one with 2,000-10,000 kms where the PO has sorted out any and all issues works well if you want to buy used.  Most folks go with 2007 or newer as that's when the second Great Leap Forward* happened in the Ural world. Tell 'em sagerat sent ya.
