Lots of great ideas posted so far.  My ambitious list:

1.  Finish upgrading the new-to-me 1200 Sport:  fuse block, aux lights, lower footpegs, taller seat, new tires.

2.  Moto GP at COTA;  tix in hand, brother lives in North Austin.  Looking forward to riding the bike to the track all three days.

3.  In-state SS1000, just looking for the least boring route (not all slab if possible).

4.  Ride to my brother's in Ohio for a short visit.  Maybe Deals Gap on the way there (or other suitable twisties in AR).

5.  Big Money Rally with my 14 y.o. daughter as navigator.  Day rides, close to home destinations.

6.  One track day / instructional course.  Not for racing, but to better learn the bike's capabilities and improve my daily skills.

7.  Rent a bike during a weekend while on a business trip.  I've done this in Tokyo (after living there) and Brisbane - I might have an opportunity in Argentina, Prague, or Alberta.

In general, ride more.

1. Get the head rebuilt, the bike currently smokes quite a bit on start up.

2. From March to November ride to work every day I can.

3. Attend as many local group rides as possible.

4. Ride to Boone, NC. in May for the East Coast FJ Rally. I have never ridden in the Appalachians.

5. Replace the the front and rear suspension with specialty parts from RPM.

Buy gas, change oil, fresh tires.  Ride any road I can find.

I'm working under the "keep it simple" approach this year.  Last year was far too complex.

+1

A couple of track days and some good road time would be optimal.

My new job should make it easier.

I think this year will involve a trip to the Black Hills and Mount Rushmore with my BIL and his cop buddies.

1.  Moving to Reno.  MUCH longer riding season than AK, and more than 4 roads Smile  Plus my son is going to MMI just down the road in Phoenix (I know how far it is) so I don't have to cross international borders just to go riding with him.
2.  Buy a new to me bike.  I've looked at about everything on two wheels, and I've decided on a 2002-2004 K1200RS/GT.  Just something about them that really interests me and looks like a good match for the way I ride.
3.  Go ride LOTS of the awesome roads in the Sierra Nevadas.
4.  Two trips to Laguna Seca.  MotoGP in July and WSBK in September.  Love that place!

1. Install my HID headlamp that has been sitting on the workbench since July.

2. SS1000

3. Utah (this one shows up every year)

4. Ride with my sons. (Maybe with #2)

My one fear is unsecure heights. My advice to you if you don't like heights would be to never ride up Mt. Washington in NH on a motorcycle.

As I said in my rr, Mt Washington was probably one of the scariest rides i have done. Going down isn't the problem for me, going up the mountain was.

I finished 2012 by buying all the gear I'm basically going to need for a couple years — new jacket, new pants, new heated liner and gloves, new touring windshield, new Givi topcase. I. Am. Done. (Except for some little stuff.)

So for 2013 I'm hoping to take two long-ish trips. Minimum of one long trip, though, either to the Smokey Mountains or the Grand Canyon region.

Smokey Mountains if a buddy can find the funds to join me, so we'll be meeting his brother near Washington, D.C.

I'll be hitting the Grand Canyon region if my buddy can't make it.

If luck and finances hold, I'll be doing both trips this year.

Once winter sets in next November or December, I plan on accumulating some good camping gear so I can spend the summer of 2014 doing some moto-camping.

I'm going to try for a SS1k also this year.  I threatened it a lot last year.  Actually I wasted a lot of effort trying to convince my neighbor to join me for one in October.  I also wasted breath trying to convince the same neighbor to get a Sena headset.

My thoughts were: easier to do a SS1k with a Sena-equipped friend than either alone or with a friend doing hand-signals for communication.

Fuck it.  I have stopped wasting my efforts and will just go it solo, sometime when I get 24 hours to myself.

Test ride the new Triumph Trophy on my B-day in May.  Read as much as possible about it for the following year. If all still looks (reads) good and a second test ride the following May proves to be as impressive as the first, then have a 2014 in the garage for my 60th B-day.  (I know that went a bit past 2013 -- so shoot me).

I spent most of the summer last year working out the niggles on my bike. Did headgaskets, chased a couple oil leaks, shocks, tires, etc.

This coming year I'd like to put together a minimal camping setup and do the Gaspesie and Cape Breton. Newfoundland if the price is right.
