This coming year I'd like to put together a minimal camping setup and do the Gaspesie and Cape Breton. Newfoundland if the price is right.

Tip from someone who did that this year?

Skip the Gaspé and go straight to Cape Breton, then take the ferry to Newfoundland.  Also, check the HI hostels for lodging.  ~$30-35 a night for bunk bed and a shower with full kitchen facilities vs. just about the same cost for organized campsites.  Ride report on the blog in my sig.  Lots of pics of the hostels too.  I skipped NFL due to the money spent going up the Gaspè.

Wait a minute!  I just saw your location in your info.  You're local to there!   Lol  It's a beautiful area.

Rides... purchases... material upgrades / maintenance to bike... competition?

What big things do STN members have planned for 2013?

To take a day ride, from the California Sierra to Utah Salt flats to see Sam Wheeler attempt 400 MPH in his EZ-HOOK streamliner.
Rumor has it, This will be his last attempt.  Sure want to see his (if possible) Naked streamliner..And see him/talk to him.

Three weeks on Route 66 in September! Two weeks out, one week back. I will probably be taking my Versys 650, but my buddy Todd wants to take his Yamaha Riva 185 that he just picked up used (it needs some work before then!). We're planning on camping as much as possible, and spend a full day doing touristy stuff in L.A. before high-tailing it home.

For letting me go on 2-, 3-, or 4-week trips every year, my wife is AWESOME! I so wish she could go with and enjoy these trips with me. But she's putting off taking the MSF course and getting her M/C endorsement, and she won't camp. Todd and I camp as much as possible in order to afford 2-4 weeks on the road at a time; if we stayed in hotels, we probably couldn't do much more than 10 days a year. On our two-week excursion to northern Quebec last September, we only stayed two nights in a hotel in Radisson; the rest was all camping, and we really got comfortable with it.

Anyway, we'll be updating our website as we go: http://www.mototourers.com

Southern Utah via Highway 191.  Add to the 18,000 miles of my first year of riding.  Enjoy.

Awesome. 18k in the first year too!

Where in NM?

Ride more, do more track days (itching to get my new to me Tuoldo on the track) and get at least one multi-day ride in.

Blew my rule of taking at least one motorcycle related class per year rule in 2012, so I'll likely do the experienced MSF course as a refresher.  THought about applying to be an instructor...

Clay, can you find a couple more namesakes and make it a 1000 mile ride?

The Clay tour!  You need a t-shirt set up to the theme of a rock concert tour.

The route looks incomplete.  You're going to need a few more Clay named places to get back home.

I'm going to try for a SS1k also this year.  I threatened it a lot last year.  Actually I wasted a lot of effort trying to convince my neighbor to join me for one in October.  I also wasted breath trying to convince the same neighbor to get a Sena headset.

My thoughts were: easier to do a SS1k with a Sena-equipped friend than either alone or with a friend doing hand-signals for communication.

Fuck it.  I have stopped wasting my efforts and will just go it solo, sometime when I get 24 hours to myself.

If you head north, I'd be happy to ride some of it with you. I might even buy a Sena headset for the occasion.  Beerchug

I'm also overdue for some my 191 goodness on the AZ-NM border as I haven't ridden that since '04 or so.
This, but with the wife!

But first I have to get the bike tuned, a rear tire, and a seat cover.  New jacket, helmet, gloves, and boots - wife got new gear last year.  At least 2 long weekend trips with the better half, and if I am lucky, one 1000 mile or so solo tour - if I am lucky!  Embarassment
