I can't seem to get it out of my mind.  I have been searching for a deal.  Winter has to get over so that I can get more miles on the bike.  Still riding, it is just not as fun in the snow, so I am spending more time on the pc.

I just keep looking at the xr1200x.  The bike looks like it would be a whole different kind of fun compared to the c14.  I am thinking that fun could be had under 120 mph.

I am also looking at just the regular xr1200.  I am thinking the x is just some minor tweeks that can be done easily at home.

HELP!

W, you are a big dude! I'd be afraid that that little thing would get stuck in the crack of your ass. Other than that, it looks like a great machine. Got the dough? Buy it.

OMG! Don't do it! You'll regret it for the rest of your life. Everyone will point and laugh.

You'll have to get a new wardrobe in orange and black with HD all over them.

You will only ride to and from bars and twice on bike night.

Your favorite letter will be Arrrrrrrrr.

Lemming and sheep may look to you for guidance.

Ummm... thats all I got.  Lol

I always liked the look. Then I got to check one out while a friend was renting a bike. Ergos were weird and it was way heavier than I expected it to be. Meh.

I like the looks of the bike as well, and the thought of a "good" Harley is somehow appealing.  I've done a couple demo rides on them, and as Garry says, they are just "Meh" to ride.

If I was in the market for a fun "standard" I'd be much more interested in a Dursoduro 1200, Monster, Hypermotard, Speed Triple...

YMMV

I have had my XR for 3 years and 25K miles and I still like it.  It is a basic motorcycle and will not be the fastest thing out there; but it is a lot of fun to ride.

The only problems I have had with it was a bad ECM, Clutch Cable Housing was damaged & a button on the back of the speedo was bad.  All 3 issues were taken care of under warranty and none of them left me stranded.

The only mods that I have done was add the H-D sport screen, H-D luggage rack (which I added a Givi trunk onto it) and the H-D factory tank bag.

I have done a couple of long trips with it:
Milwaukee - Gettysburg, PA = 2500 miles
Milwaukee - Richmond, VA - Knoxville, TN - Kansas City, MO = 3500 Miles
Milwaukee - Richmond, KY = 1300 Miles (did this twice)

Because of the small tank (3.5 gallons) you will have to fill up every 120 miles and use 91+ fuel.

I'm a bigger guy 6'0/250 lbs and I get around on it just fine.

I'm probably selling mine in the spring just because I need some extra cash and it is my 2nd bike.  If I didn't need the extra funds I would keep it, it is a great bike and it really fun to ride.

There are XR-X out there if you are looking for new, if you need helping finding one let me know.

Later.

I found one on Monday and say to the wife, "Hey I found a XR1200 down by Detroit."  She comes over and take a look at in on the lap top and said, "We don't have anything going on, so are we loading up in the truck and going to Detroit to get it?"  I have to look of a deer in the head lights, did she just say lets pull out 8,000 dollars out of saving and drive to Detroit and buy a motorcycle?????  Yup that's what she said.  I was not expecting that right then.  I am not even sure that I want.....not need....want the bike yet.  I was really hoping to score a ride on one before I slapped money down on the table.  The bike is an 09 with 900 miles on it.  It is the orange one.  F*ck really want to ride an xr1200 and an xr1200x to see if the extra money is worth it or if I like the bike at all.  Mind you I have to know if it will wheelie.  I just can't imagine owning a bike that will not lift the front tire.  Dam it, got the go ahead but I am not ready to jump in the truck and pick up the bike yet.

Dammit, cold feet had to put the brakes on and stayed home.

Just don't know how much longer I can talk myself out of it.

Try to ride one. I found the bike to be absolute freaking hoot. It's what I was trying to build when I had my 883. It's a very, very versatile platform, runs well, handles surprisingly well. the handle bars might need tweaking for ergos, but on what bike *isn't* that true?

I loved the thing.

this is my hammer. my dad gave it to me. he got it from his dad who got it from his before him. it's been in the family for generations. we've had to replace the handle a few times and the head twice but it priceless because of its family history.

I demo'd one when checking out Buell's a few years back and thought it was a ton of fun.  Great power delivery and intake noise.  Agree with Carbonero about the bars, and I also thought it was odd that I couldn't grip the narrow tank with my knees in corners, but both of these are minor compared to the fun factor.

I still hope to own one some day when it makes sense...well, as much sense as multiple bike ownership ever really makes  Bigsmile

Ride one if you can. You'll either go  Crazy or  Inlove .

I went  Inlove

The only difference 'twixt the XRX and the "regular" is the color of the engine (black on the XX) and the suspension. The standard forks are pretty bad and the shocks are terrible. For around town stuff you could probably live with it. I have the XRX forks to put on mine but haven't done it yet... it's hard for me to tear apart a running/functional bike.  Rolleyes

Still saving for some Ohlins piggybacks for the rear. $$$$$$$  Crazy

I rode one. They're great. Finish-not so good. But my old Triumph Thunderbird 883 did pretty much the same thing, but better.
