Anything available in the US other than the 30 minutes per day digest on NBC Sports??

the above opinion is simply that of an average middle aged hick with one too many brain injuries... or, don't take it too serious.

Unless I'm misreading this, all programming is being provided by the Dakar Rally organizers themselves.
Quote
During the two weeks of the race, the TV production teams of the Dakar follow the competitors over more than 5,000 miles to relay their exploits. It is a tremendous challenge for them too.
With worldwide broadcasts covering 190 countries through 70 channels, the Dakar excites specialists and fascinates outsiders, who discover the landscapes of South America for the fifth year running. The focus of interest can change from country to country and the production of images responds to the specific needs of the broadcasters, depending on whether they send their teams to the rally or not. Therefore, unprecedented means are deployed on each of the 13 stages with a dual mission in mind: to report on the performances and the hazards faced by the competitors and their teams through the most striking images, while observing strict time limits for sticking to the schedules of all the channels.
Every day a full 26-minute programme is sent to all channels, with a summary of the stage for each category, on-the-spot interviews with the days' winners or losers, close-up shots of the experiences of the amateurs, reports on what goes on behind the scenes in the rally, and archive footage of past editions. There are also specific programmes for TV stations that follow certain competitors closely, and summaries are also produced by specialist websites.
Considerable technical and human resources are mobilised to produce and make these programmes, to take the shots and carry out the editing and the transmission of the images. As well as the aerial shots, taken from 3 helicopters, there are images from TV vehicles on the ground, and this year a state-of-the-art camera will show high-precision slow-motion shots (1,000 images per second) to make the programmes even more attractive.
If the Dakar attracts cameras, the written press, radio stations and agencies are also present in large numbers to cover the race. Their photographers and reporters either travel by plane or in press cars. All in all, 400 permanent journalists are accredited for the event.

Its a shame about Marc Coma but what a huge opportunity for American Kurt Caselli. Hope he does well.

The great thing about Dakar is who competes and why. Hard to find a more inspirational or compelling story than these guys:

The Race2Recovery team, comprised mostly of U.S. and UK servicemen wounded in Afghanistan, has been training for over a year in anticipation of one of the world’s most difficult races.

About the only motorsport thing I pay attention to.
This will make the next couple years much more interesting

However, the KTM guys will have to face quite some serious competition this year, starting with the resurrected Honda HRC Factory team, that will return to the Dakar after a 23 years-long absence.
