Nice Bike, Nice Guy

In the 15 years I've worked at this law firm, the only bikes ever gracing the parking lot have been my assorted Hondas and Kawasakis. Last week, I saw this beauty parked in one of the attorney's spots:
According to the owner, "it's a '78 R100RS Motorsport, bone stock except for some suspension pieces, and an extended oil pan with 32k on it." To my eye, it's almost as clean as the day it was rolled out of the showroom.
When I sent the owner an email to complement him on such a nice looking bike, his immediate response was, "If you've ever wondered what a stock '78 Euro spec RS drives like, you're welcome to take it 4 a spin."
I'm pretty sure this was a genuine offer but I declined as I didn't have my gear with me that day and I don't make a habit of riding bikes I know I could never replace in the event of a mishap but boy did he shatter all the stereotypes of both attorneys and BMW riders.
Nice bike, nice guy.

Cool roundel. Not ordinary, but not in your face either.

It's the BMW Motorsport one. I ordered a pair for the G650X, but gave them to my buddy for his R100RT project.

You're right - nice guy, nice bike.
I had something similar a while back - that is the best ST fairing and riding position I have experienced.

Sorry, never been a fan of the Gummikuh.
To me, they look so staid.
Unless it's a much older one, like an R75 that's been Cafe'd tastefully, then I can dig it.

That's pretty wild. Yeah, getting there. I was thinking of one in particular I've seen before, but I gOOgled it and could not find the exact one.
Super minimalist, no fairing, stripped to the bone cafe' R75 (or similar).

Thanks for sharing a beautiful motorcycle with us!
Staid - "sedate dignity with a straight laced sense of propriety" Pretty accurately describes the boxer!
I had two R100/7, dreamt of owning a beautiful RS. IMO the finest 60 or so horsepower motorcycles ever built. Unless you were riding with sportbikes the lack of acceleration was never a problem, and the wonderful character, reliability, and fuel economy were a joy. Bought my first when I was 25 years old and rode it in the Iron Butt Rally two years later. I will always have fond memories of riding the country on truly fine motorcycle.

It doesn't get much more minimalist that this one.
