They have guns.
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2013/01/motorcyclist-dies-after-ventura-pursuit-chp-shooting-.html
Quote
A motorcyclist being chased by the California Highway Patrol near Ventura died Saturday after crashing over an embankment and being shot by the pursuing officer.
The name and age of the victim and the identity of the CHP officer involved in the shooting had not been released Sunday morning as Ventura County sheriff's deputies continued their investigation into the incident, said sheriff's Capt. Jerry Hernandez.
Authorities said the CHP officer saw the motorcyclist speeding on old Pacific Coast Highway near Faria Beach, north of Ventura, and pursued him onto Padre Juan Canyon Road near the 101 Freeway. About 2:20 p.m. the motorcycle crashed and went over an embankment before the shooting occurred.
The investigation will focus on circumstances leading to the shooting, sheriff's officials said. The sheriff's involvement was requested by the CHP, they said.

Guns are bad and they should be banned.

Akshully if the dood wasn't on a bike the cop wouldn't have shot him so bikes should be banned.
I would like to know what kind of protective gear the rider was wearing. So I can avoid that brand because obviously it did not work.

Let's start the "What was he riding?" discussion.
Some possibilities: BMW R75, Yamaha V Star 250, or Suzuki Hayabusa with a 240 rear tire on chrome rims. Any other thoughts?

We definitely know it wasn't a Guzzi.

Rider could have had a gun as well. Having said that, anyone running from the police and endangering other peoples lives should be nuked from space. Its the only way to be sure.

We should ban cops then, to prevent them from getting shot.

+1 though knowing what a large segment of the motorcycling community is like in Ventura it could have been justified. I've felt like shooting some of them myself at times.

That's ridiculous. We need cops.
But we don't need Phoenix. So ban Phoenix and then no-one can get shot there.

Getting chased by the cops... crashing... then fatally shot...
Bet his horoscope didn't see that one coming.

It's not just Phoenix, it's the desert. I know from living in Vegas that the brutal 115 degree temps makes people angry and short tempered. That could lead to shootings.
That's dangerous. So ban the Sonoran and Mojave deserts too...
