ESTN is tentatively set for weekend of SEP 20-22, 2013

Click the links for discussion info - I reset the poll because it would not let me change my vote - was 7/5 favor of Capra.

New Option  -  The Thompson House  30 rooms - Windham is north central Kats - $85/night Single

Capra Inn-Motel, Hancock, NY – West of Catskills ~$60/night & limited capacity

Comfort Inn & Suites, Goshen, NY – South of Catskills, $85/night & lots of rooms

Thought I'd leave options open just in case.

I cast my vote for the Comfort Inn. It would be nice to have enough space for everyone in the same hotel. The extra $15 per night will be offset a bit by the included breakfast.

You might consider Hunter Mountain as an alternative.
Lotsa rooms there and to early for leaf peepers or skiers.

Look at rates in Hunter Mt area, then read the online reviews and check location on Google maps.   Also, check cancellation policies.  I did on hotels.com, but I did not make a thorough search across multiple sites. (I dislike TripAdvisor anymore.). I didn't find anything that I thought was suitable. There are one or 2 suitable options just over $100/night that IMO do not present a significant advantage over the Comfort Inn.   There are some really nice resorts, but they get a little pricey, and nobody is going to be spending a lot of time indoors

Hunter Mt vrs Goshen.....Location?

Maybe I'm spoiled but in the past, our gang enjoyed a bar at the hotel, a heated pool, hot tub, etc. I arranged some killer deals at New Canaan Resort through the group sales rep.
I would be surprised if the same couldn't be done at the Kaatskill Mt Club for under $100.00 with less expensive options available in town. The bar and restaurant are open to the public so the folks not staying there could get together with those who were.
BTW, I ride the Catskills weekly almost year round, leaving my home right off 519 near High Point NJ...so, Hunter was just a suggestion I thought might work...
Good luck with whatever you decide.

Skee & Crew.
I took a ride to Hancock this morning and checked out the Capri.   Thumbsup  Thumbsup Thumbsup
Here are a few pics..

It looks to be a great spot. I talked with the guys in the picture, they gave it a 10 out of 10. He also said he was there to book the whole motel for his group.
I also scoped out a few roads (Pennsylvania side of river) of interest.
Most are in need of repair but if you like twisties and plenty of dirt roads, you'll love the area. IMO it's ideal for V-stroms, Gs's, ect.

Thanks Sammy - the other thing I recall about the Catz is lack of gas stations once you get off main roads.

Jack

Are we looking at the same place & DATES   Headscratch

Comfort Inn & Suites, 20 Hatfield Lane, Goshen, NY, US, 10924,  Phone: (845) 291-1282

Because the best I'm seeing on an AARP rate for SEP 20 is $116.

Don't bogart that rate my friend; pass it right on over to me.

PS If you sign up for 5 years and it's even cheaper - got $100 off our last cruise - paid with ROI.

In the meantime, I contacted Catskill Mt Club and Hunter Inn and asked for a group rate.  Stay tuned...

Catskill Mt Club is out.  They have NO availability weekend of SEP 20 because of several weddings and a triathlon. (Could be a real Sadie Hawkins Day type event; too bad we'll miss it.)  That probably explains why they came up on my earlier internet searches as having no availability.  Well, the phone call didn't cost me a dime; no harm, no foul.

The manager was nice enough to suggest 2 other nearby lodges that might be able to host us.  I'm checking with them now.  If available, I'll add them to the poll.

I have been calling resorts in the Hunter Mt area, on the off-chance that I’ll find something even though none of these places came up on earlier internet searches that I did.  I’m beginning to see why.  I don’t have that warm fuzzy feeling about this search.   It’s looking like best 2 options may be posted.  FYI, IMO, eastern Catskills (Kingston area) is not a good option location wise, although there is availability; it presents no advantage over what I’ve already posted.

Cave Mountain Motel – no availability
Winwood Inn – completely booked at this time – rooms blocked for weedings
Hunter Inn – waiting for response (total of 42 rooms)
Thompson House – waiting for response

While I’m open to constructive suggestions, whimsical suggestions that lack substantive merit will get the treatment you've come to expect on STN.

I'm not familiar enough with Hancock or Goshen but I like the idea of us being the group that takes over a town.

New option The Thompson House

19 Rt. 296, Windham, NY 12496
Has about 30 rooms available for ESTN.  Some rooms have AC and some don’t.
It is a 1 mile walk into town, where there are places to eat, including the Cave Mountain Brewing Company.

The following rates are per room per night, SEP 20 -22.  The rates do NOT include any meals, but do include tax and gratuity.
Single without A/C = $75.36
Single with A/C = $84.00
Standard Double without A/C = $122.64
Standard Double with A/C = $131.28
Main Building = $159.36
All the Main Building rooms have 2 full size beds, air conditioning, and a mini-frig.  The bedding in the Standard rooms varies, which the host can go over with individuals when they call to reserve a room.  [If you are splitting a room or bringing your SO and kin, make sure you know what kind of bed(s) in the room.]

Cancellation policy – 14-days advance notice required for cancellation.

The Thompson House may be able to offer a group breakfast.  They may also be able to offer a group dinner 1 night.  Please let me know if you are interested in these options and I will be able to adjust the rates.  NOTE:  The Thompson House uses an “American plan”.  That means breakfast and/or dinner can be added to the group room rate, but as I understand it, we have to decide in advance and agree to it as a group.

Thompson House isn't doing anything for me. 14-day cancellation sucks and the rates are way over $100/night for a room with two beds and A/C.

Given the limited number of voters so far (13), one could infer that the Capra Inn will have plenty of space for us. Or maybe 75% of the people that would attend haven't voted.

I'm still liking the Capra Inn option and Hancock location.

Thanks for putting the work in to research the lodging options Skee!
