I'm assuming you're serious.  Vertical Scope owns Motorcycle.com which just bought Sport-Touring.net.

http://www.verticalscope.com/#

Our History

VerticalScope is a privately held corporation headquartered in Toronto, Canada. We specialize in the acquisition and development of websites and online communities for the Automotive, Powersports, Power Equipment, Pets, Sports and Technology vertical markets.

VerticalScope is an integrated multi-platform media company. Our social networks and websites are vertically integrated roll-ups in high-consumer spending verticals. The resultant audience aggregation places many of our verticals within the Top 5 of ComScore Media Metrix for their respective category.

We leverage our deep in-house expertise in Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Internet marketing, and traffic acquisition to build highly targeted, successful online communities and websites. Our arsenal of tools includes a significant portfolio of irreplaceable, generic domain names we have acquired over the past decade. These domains drive organic type-in traffic to our web properties resulting in hundreds of thousands of enthusiasts arriving at our network every month by means of direct navigation.

Through targeted acquisitions and development, VerticalScope has built a portfolio of more than 400+ websites with more than 25 million aggregate pages of content and more than 60 Million unique visitors per month - and growing.

Does this mean even more adds?  Since the site is now owned by a Canadian group will we be expected to be even more polite than in the past?  Will the gun thread disappear?  Will we be required to discuss hockey?  Inquiring minds want to know. Lol Lol Lol

So, what the fuck is a "verticle"?

I sometimes wonder if people that use corporate douche talk know that thinking people vomit a little when they talk like that.

Agreed.  It really is bullshit artist speak, having to toss around all the latest business buzz words like they're doing something so mindboggling amazing.

Someone creates a website.
People join.
The website develops itself over time via end user needs and the creator's skills to maintain it.
All members live happily ever after.

Vertical scope purchases someone else's hard work then assigns someone to spend 15 minutes a day to check in on it and maintain if necessary.  Which really means they place a bunch of ads all over the place for easy money.

Sorry, they're not rocket scientists working for Rutan.

So, what the fuck is a "verticle"?

A vertical is a grouping of buisnesses that offer a related product or service. Medical, finance, insurance, powersports, etc. It's a concept that needs a name because having to say "a grouping of buisnesses that offer a related product or service" over and over again would get old fast. "Vertical" makes sense if you think about it in a visual sense.

It's not "corporate douche talk". It's a sort of verbal short hand that allows people to communicate more effectively. Sure, some people misuse it just like anything else but for the most part, it works. It's the evolution of language. No reason to get bent about it.
