It was dry heading back west.I think the others could have got wet. Looked like more rain around Madison when I got home. Another great day for a ride. Here's a pic on Y13 I took on the way over.

Just got back pictures to follow.

One of the best roads ever, CY9 west of the mississippi and north of Dubuque.  I think the Iowa riders are keeping it a secret.

It rained twice a little bit on us (Sparky and myself) on the way out to Dubuque.  By the way I had 42 mpg on the way out following Sparky.  Then after lunch and following FRZY (and alone on the way home) the MPGs dropped to just over 32.

Must have been a head wind after coffe I guess.

Great day for coffee  Thumbsup

430 miles and only a few drops of rain on the way back. Not bad.
I'll post my pics later.

Great to see everyone today!

I had a great time.  The coffee shop was in a great old building in a part of Dubuque that had lots of pretty, old buildings.

That road along the Iowa bluffs was amazing.

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/wmhickey/IowaView.jpg

I got my first ferry ride today too.  Here we are at the landing:

And here we are on the ferry:

Thanks again guys.  It was a great day.  A long day, though, I was gone almost 12 hours.

It was a great day riding.  One of the best in a long time.  I might get some pictures posted later, but I was gone for 12 hours also, so I'm taking Tina out for some ice cream.  A small price to pay for a fabulous day.  Great to see everyone again, and nice to have you Bill.  A.K.A Hickey.

Damn that looks like fun, sorry I missed it. My niece and her team played in the National Invitational Rugby Tournament here in Franklin. I had to go root her on. They finished third. What a great experience for a 17 year old, but she messed up her shoulder, big time.  I think ATGATT would be a nice touch for that sport. They wear T-shirts that say "Give blood, play rugby".

But I digress, back to coffee. The guy who once owned that coffee
shop (and maybe still does) spent a whole day at one of my shops picking my brain and learning what he could in 8 hours. I hope the drinks were good.  After Memorial Day I'm going to have to get back NE Iowa, test the coffee and test ride those roads. Glad you all had fun.

We had a great ride today. Was 39 when we left. Could not imagine that it would be high 70s in Iowa.

We were about an hour behind the main group on the ride on C9Y according to the gal on the ferry.

We spent a good amount of time checking out the festival in Dubuque.

When we crossed over to WI we took 133 south out of Cassville to Y, then north on Y to 81 (Wow was 81 incredible! absolutely clean and smooth and crooked as could be). 81 north to U. South on U to Potosi then O to Plattville.

Had dinner at that great Mexican place in Plattville. Dropped Katie off and headed home.

Good to see everyone at coffee.

Sorry we (Dave and I) missed you all. Looks like you guys had fun!

We did make it out to the Mississippi Coffee shop today, but we were late. We just got a new communications system and a new GPS.
We were up until 3:00 am working on our bikes, so we could test run everything before our big trip.  So we overslept, so next time we will be there on time.

We started out at 9:00 am at a temperature of 46 degrees and partly cloudy. We headed out I-90 to Rt. 20 through Galena and got in Dubuque about noon, obviously you were all gone.  Dubuque was Sunny and about 65 degrees. Since we could not find anyone and were hungry we went and had lunch at the Bricktown Brewery which was about two blocks away from the coffee shop. After lunch we went south through Iowa along Rt. 52 south to Sabula, IA where we had to strip off some layers because it was now 80 degrees and sunny. The we took Rt. 67 south all the way to Le Claire, Iowa. By the time we got to Le Claire, IA it was 90 degrees and sunny.   We then crossed the Mississippi River here to go back into Illinois and headed back to Chicago, by the time we got to De Kalb, IL the temperature was dropping quite fast so we had to layer up again. We finally rolled back in to the garage at about 9:00 pm and once again the temperature was back to 45 degrees.

All and all it was a pretty good day, we saw no rain, we saw plenty of sun, our communications system worked, my Ipod worked, my GPS sort of worked. The GPS worked fine on showing us where to go and where we were, etc. However, I could not get it to work with the communications system.  I need to double check the wiring this week so I can hear the turn ahead, etc.  My new seat was very rough, I am going to have to contact the manf. about it, see how long it is supposed to take to break in, because after over 500 miles you would think it would start to be comfortable. And finally we both forgot our cameras so we could not get pictures, so we have decided we will need to do this ride again, because we saw some really cool places.

Glad to see everyone else had a good time.   Bigsmile

I didn't go to coffee because I had to stay here and monitor the weather. I'll have you guys know it never got above 53 and windy here in MKE. You don't know how good you had it. I wish I could have followed Joel up CY9 or whatever that's called again. That was fun last time I was there.

I spent the weekend helping "xspain and the amazing H" move. Load after load of their "treasures and keepsakes" were loaded and unloaded from my truck so not much riding. Andy did manage a bunch of trips back and forth with a Ural sidecar full of stuff though. I would estimate it would take 37 trips if all he used was the Ural. Imagine a coffee table strapped to the Ural luggage rack.

Glad you had fun. Call another one for that place in a month or so. Thanks!

I've never dealt with an aftermarket seat, but I think the longer it takes to 'break-in', the longer it's going to last before it's 'wore out'.
And, almost every seat is going to be 'rough' in cooler temps (and maybe take that much longer to break in).
