Bacon burgers - one-third thick-sliced, house-smoked bacon and two-thirds lean beef ground at the local butcher shop. Plus the beer, roasted potatoes, and a mixed green salad...

So was the beer for personal consumption or did you marinade the burgers in it?

Personal consumption...  I'll have to give the beer marinade a thought or two. The bacon flavor is subtle - the burgers are awesome I think with a smoky bbq sauce... YMMV...

My wife left for a 3 week ride with 2 of her friends so I'm a bachelor. It'll be hot n spicy food week here until next Sunday, when I leave to meet her down in SC.

Last night was pretty simple, I was supposed to have a band gig that got postponed because the venue had lost power the night before in a bad storm, so I wasn't really prepared to cook anything.

Baked chicken legs with cumin, salt, pepper, and chile powder. Sauteed yellow squash from the garden. Red quinoa cooked with cilantro pesto. Cucumber salad (from the garden) with mint, Thai chile, and yogurt dressing.

Tonight I'm going to get a nice steak and put it on the grill. Probably more squash (I have a lot of squash coming in but I love it so its cool). Tonight I'll marinade it and then grill it.

Last night's dinner- Rib eye done medium rare, portobello marinated in home made Jamaican Jerk paste, homegrown squash and chiles marinated in with cilantro pesto, balsamic and olive oil. And a Dogfish 60 Minute IPA. or 2 or 3. Maybe more.

Most of them are planted, but we do have some that are reproducing in our rivers.  It actually has a *very* large fishery in the Great Lakes.  They don't get as big as the ocean variety (25 lbs is a huge one, 30 is a wall hanger), but we do have many in there.  A couple varieties of Salmon, Steelhead, Lake Trout, among others.  I put a 28 pounder in the boat last August.   Thumbsup

This summer the fishing has been fantastic:

JACKPOT!

Susan's boss owns several hundred acres southeast of here. Feral hogs are a problem for them as they are everywhere. About 6 weeks ago they had a shoot and killed nearly 2 dozen hogs. She then had them dressed and made into sausage, ribs, loin roast, pulled pork....not sure if there's any bacon, by Edes http://edesmeats.com/. Okay, just found out they don't do curing there. So there's no bacon or hams.  Sad

Anyway, we grilled some sausage last night and smoked a rack of ribs today. I wanted to post the sausage last night but my camera battery was dead.

Here's the ribs from tonight.

http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f361/pak714/dinner/P1020688.jpg

along with fresh picked from the garden beans and tators (precious).

http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f361/pak714/dinner/P1020689.jpg

Yeah, I know, presentation means diddley squat to me when it comes to food.

So here's the jackpot. We're gonna get at least 50# of this sweet meat.  Thumbsup  And Cathy says I'm welcome to join in the hunt next time. Not that there's really any hunting involved. The hogs are so prolific and brazen, they stand around waiting to be shot. Or so I've heard.  Shrug
