According to several reports, former motocrosser Marty Moates took his own life yesterday, December 7, in Southern California. Moates was 49 years old.

Marty Moates was the first American to win the 500cc motocross United States Grand Prix after years of European dominance.

I worked with Marty back in the mid 80's...just a real nice guy.  Saw him at Laguna Seca in '05 with all of the other Yamaha legends.  May he rest in peace, and peace be with his loved ones.

Just so you know, Marty has undergone a number of back surgeries in the last few years, and because of this he was on a multitude of pain medications. Anyone who has been through this understands how a person's psyche can be affected. Usually in a very negative way.

Marty was an amazing human being, full of love and caring for others. Had you known of his situation, I'm sure you would not have replied as you did...

I have resisted posting about this all day because I suspect something is wrong there. It is a tough time of year for many folks and I for one, understand the pressures.  Mr Sunshine ain't exactly shining just now.
