How incredibly sacrificial of you.  At least you didn't bury your RC45...someone will actually want the Nighthawk.

Couldn't resist picking that low hanging fruit.   Lol

If only Colleen would have sat on Mr.RC45 at the WCRM... then someone may want it... but she was too
wise to my antics...

It's just some sensationalistic press after the police killed someone in an accident.

Exactly what the proposal is: a quick way to deflect blame from the one who really caused the accident-- the police officer.

Graduated licensing isn't going to happen. But if it did, you would rue the day. Complaints about dealing with the  bureaucracy alone would need at least a separate section on ST.N... but more likely entire boards devoted to just that.

I think we should ban speedometers.  It's quite clear that speeding is the cause of all of lifes problems.  If no one had a speedometer then it'd be impossible to speed, thus the world would be saved.

We laugh, but back in the early '80s our oh so intelligent legislators wouldn't allow manufacturers to put speedometers in vehicles that went over 80 MPH.

"I swear officer, I was only going 80!"

A tiny point:  they went to 85 mph.  I drive and '86 Buick Riviera that has one of those speedometers.

Ahhhh, the old Joan Claybrook speedometer. It also had '55' in really big font size. Even the bikes had 'em. I don't miss those things.

Yes good riddance Joan but to be fair she was only responsible for passage of the 1966 Highway Safety
Act and the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act authorized the federal government to set and
regulate standards for motor vehicles and highways, a mechanism necessary for effective prevention.
Many changes in both vehicle and highway design followed this mandate. Vehicles (agent of injury)
were built with new safety features, including head rests, energy-absorbing steering wheels,
shatter-resistant windshields, and safety belts. Roads (environment) were improved by better
delineation of curves (edge and center line stripes and reflectors), use of breakaway sign and utility
poles, improved illumination, addition of barriers separating oncoming traffic lanes, and guardrails...

I think it was the manufactures who responded to the oil crunch back in the 70s with the silly 55 mph
speedometers...

Nah, Joan Claybrook was Jimmy Carter's bitch and she was in charge of the NHSTA. They came up with the rules regarding speedometers only going to 85 and having the 55 rendered large.

Joan was/is a Ralph Nader acolyte. She's still out there as President of Ralph's Public Citizen organization. Now maybe these types of poeple do some good for society, I just wish they wouldn't be such nosebleeds about it. Ah well, they must also be suffered in today's world.

Actually the funny thing is that she all but admits she fubar'ed the gas mileage regulations.  IIRC she worked closely with GM to help write the CAFE standards and effectively paved the way for Expeditions and Suburbans to become mainstream vehicles.  It never occurred to her that GM and Ford would develop big heavy SUVs for anyone but tradesmen who need to haul and tow big loads.  She was the one who led the way to the dual standard CAFE regs with much lower regs for SUVs and full size pick'em-ups.

Dog:
My owner is a total dick. Get me out of here!

Ok really, do you think this man has ever had any fun in his life? His dog looks like he would slash his paws if he could! And his wife, well hell she has got "I am only here for the Lexus" written all over her face!

Thread Jack!

Funny you should mention that. There is currently a big push here in PA to make aluminum bats illegal.

I hate to sound racist and what not but our beloved sport has been hijacked by the "Thug" community (note shows like superbikes).
It appears that the import thing is slowly on it's way out with less and less high end two door hatches coming out and is being replaced via the "Squid Thug" culture.
Case in point one of my very good friends, really nice guy really smart guy, what does it he do?
Goes hog wild for a black 900zzr with chromed out every thing can he ride? Ahhh no! Has he taken the appropriate classes...aaaah no. Does he have a license.....aaaah no! Will he eventually crash his freaking brains out wild doing one of his 130+mph stints on the highway? Aaaah more than likely.
So what can you do?
It's his money! It's his life! The dealer didn't ask him if he had a license nor insurance before he handed him the keys.
If you ask me, and I know I'm a total commy, but one should not be able to ride away on a bike till one demonstrates ability via license.
And those that are cought with out license should have their bikes taken away and given a rather large fine!
Maybe that way these "Squid Thugs" will stop being such dam squids!
