+10000!
The last generation VW's that me, my sister and various peeps I knew owned were the worst things ever.
Complete piles of poo.  Never again.
And this just after VW announced a recall yesterday on their new Passats and Tiguans where surging could make the cars suddenly accelerate.

They are near the bottom of J.D. powers list of quality.

Didn't Chrysler build a bike once?  Lol

Whattayamean two months ago and sheesh?

Sheesh you asshat.  The link I posted was from a topspeed.com with a picture of a KTM/VW joint project not a link to autoweek.com that reported a one liner from Ferdinand Piech about wanting to buy a small, valuable motorcycle manufacturer as in the thread you so cleverly pointed out.  Get your story straight.

What is it with people that just love to jump in and be repost police?

Oooooh, touchy, ain't we?  A simple google would have turned up the photo, too.  What, I gotta do everything?   Twofinger

That is clearly a Moto Morini with some VW badges photo-shopped onto it.  Look at this Moto Morini and compare the frame and other features to the picture in the OP.

It would be weird for VW to come into the bike business now, when their autos are at a low point in public opinion.  Besides the r&d and manufacturing, how do they market them?  Car dealers?

If this is a bandwagon thing due to oil prices, a scooter or two would make a lot more sense.  Unless this is part of some bigger grande strategy.

Recently VW has had some quality issues but my 1998 Jetta TDI has 229K on the clock and still kicking.  Bigok

I recently sold my '95 Jetta with 250K and it still had a lot of miles left. A good car. My wifes '99 Passat is a pleasure to drive and has needed little work other than maintainance.

I love both my 1.8T VW's.
But I wouldn't tell any one to go out and buy one.
You have to have the time needed and the funds needed to take care of these cars.
Expect an oil change to take a day. Timing belt $1K+. And to top it off expect the second wost customer service known to man. The first belonging to the department of state and their lovely employees representing us at the US embasy.
Your $400 BBS rims are eating themsleves......ooohhh too bad! No we won't cover it under warantee nor provide you with a number to call. Your VW 6 disc changer having issues.......ooooooh too bad!
So would I buy a bike from VW? Ah......F.....NO!
But do I love my 1.8t Jetta and my wifes 1.8T NBS? Hell yeah!

I had a late 70's diesel rabbit that was still running great with 250,000 on it, then it hit a tree Rolleyes
I now have an '85 jetta with 450,000 on it and it works just fine. It will still run over 100mph and get 33mpg Smile

It wasn't the drive train I had problems with, just all the electronics going out, trim pieces rattling and falling off, and of course windows leaking to the point I would have to suck the water out with my wet vac. All this with a 3 year old car.  Headscratch

on one memorable occassion: It was under warranty but they wanted to charge me 80 dollars to figure out why the check engine light came on. I never did figure out what that light was indicating.  Rolleyes

My sister's GTI 1.8T:
Engine stalled while attempting to merge on freeway due to failed coil cap. A known problem that is not addressed until one fails, no matter how dangerous this can be.  See above..
Window regulators failing.
Electrical issues with lights.
Oil leak.

Problems with my Golf GLS 1.8T:
Coil caps resulting in tow.
Squeak in dash from day one that would not go away.
Suspension shot after 10K miles
Window regulators
Electrical issues with lights
Fuel tank gasket failed so the car would fill with gas fumes.  Really fun times.
New synchros required in gear box.

All the above w/in the first 10K miles.

Never, ever again would I buy VW.  Unless they made a new Bus!  Butt noooo.  What do they do? Make a flippin $100K Passat I mean Phaeton and rebadge a Chrysler Minivan as their own.

my '96 Mazda Protege has 318K on the clock, what is your point?

/keep in mind that this is with 1.5L gasoline engine; diesel engines generally last longer b/c diesel fuel has lubricating properties/

Back around the turn of the century I owned a 2000 New Beetle GLX with the 1.8 Turbo.  Awesome little car.  1t would hit 130 MPH and get upwards of 32 MPG on the highway.  Heated leather seats were sweet in the northern MN winter...

It wasn't perfect though...  It looked like a complete bitch to work on because of the Beetle form factor front clip and tiny hood (but I never had to work on it myself).  I had a power window switch go out and they needed to replace a portion of the wiring harness when the car wasn't making full power...not sure what the specific cause of the glitch was.  It was all covered under warranty (even oil changes were covered!)

It had about 17000 miles on it when I slid off the road into a tree.   Sad

I miss that car,
Jake

I had no idea VWs were so prone to attacking trees!  Are they made in the Black Forest?

Well, I can't speak for anyone else, but the evil force in MY case was a winter storm the night before which had at first melted, then froze into ice, then deposited another couple of inches of snow on top of that.   I didn't realize how slippery it was (Y2kbug had traction control that worked tits in the snow) until I came to the first sharp corner on my way to work and promptly slid off the road and down into the ditch and into a foot-diameter norway to make sure all the airbags worked.  Wink
