Title: Route 66 Southwest Portion Ride / San Francisco - June 2016
Post by: Cafe Racer on February 17, 2016, 12:39:35 am
Our Annual sport tour trip out of Calspeed Moto SF is coming up.

Departure on June 9th or 10th
Return on June 15th

This plan is to ride from San Francisco to Barstow California for the first night.  From there we will start our tour as we try to piece together the broken sections of Route 66.

We have maps and books and collective information.  Will we get lost?  Yeah, we will meander and lose our way.  But it should be a lot of fun.  And the memories will be fantastic!  In the age of cell phones and GPS and AAA roadside assistance... how lost can we really get.

A couple years ago I rode solo on a sportbike for three weeks from SF through Canada.  This ride will be easy.

If you are in the SF Bay Area and are interested in this ride, swing by the shop for details.  Or check out the following link.

Join in on the fun.  All bikes welcome.  I will be on a KTM SuperDuke 990.

Have you ever been to Barstow in June?  All along 66 temps will be in the high 90s and into the 100s...with no trees in sight!  Green tree lined two lanes are better in June than anywhere near the Mojave, but that's just my opinion... :)

In reading your link it appears that the ride is filled up and no more sign-ups allowed. True?

And I am backing up Sport on his observation. I live thirty miles from Barstow and you will be in for a HOT ride. It will get much hotter the further east you go.

Hello,

Yes, I have ridden in this portion of the state in the summer.  I LOVE IT!!!  I was there in July 2015.  Spent so time in the Mojave and then worked my way towards Bryce, Moab and back.  Prior to that I was on a Honda SuperHawk touring DVNP in August.  And prior to that......

It gets hot.  Really hot.  So, it is important to be well prepared.  We do empathize that you have some experience riding tours.  We will also require that everyone take water breaks.  Personally, I like my Camelback.  I don't mind that the water gets hot.  As long as I stay hydrated.

As well, there will be many rest stops along the way so I can personally assess the riders for heat related issues.  (Im a 20+ year Fireman/EMT with the San Francisco Fire Dept)

At the moment, we have three riders due to the normal drop off from attendees.  It was to be expected.  But the ride will still happen.  Even if I have to ride alone.  We don't charge for this ride.  We do it as a gift to the community.

I look forward to posting some awesome pics of this ride.  If anyone is interested in meeting up along the way, maybe we can make it happen.

Cheers!
