Title: Mokee Dugway
Post by: rajflyboy on September 06, 2017, 08:52:52 pm
Who here has Road the Mokee Dugway?  I was just talking to some folks who found this road by accident.  They said it's the most interesting road they have motorcycled on.

I'd imagine that plenty here have done it.  The dugway is a series of unpaved bulldozed switchbacks (hence, the name) that descend off the mesa--so this part isn't all that long.  North and south of this bit, the road is fairly straight.  On the edge of the mesa is a fine view of the Mexican Hat valley, and you're nearby (as these things go) to lots of classic monument valley scenery.  Only the switchbacks are unpaved; all the rest is fine pavement.

the view of the road from the bottom, looking at the dugway that climbs up that side:

I would post my pictures, but they look just like the ones already here

It is an interesting road, but the switchback section is short. The gravel is easy, and the time to get there long. Not to say it is not worth it - but the Dugway itself is a tiny piece of the puzzle.

This picture gives a good sense of the elevation gain, though. And the long, flat road at the bottom.

Awesome pictures

Looks like you don't want to go off the road here.   Long fall down.

I've ridden down there on my FJR. It's the sort of road that you would rather ride up than ride down. I'd rather gravity act as a brake than a throttle.

Sherri was on her VFR at the time. She calls it 5 miles of seat sucking fun...
