Title: For Blue is Best
Post by: jay547 on November 23, 2018, 10:49:41 pm
Blue said he wished more people would do ride reports or talk about sport touring so in his honor, I post this.

I wrote this for a private forum so some of the weak attempts at humor may not make sense.

In October, it rained every weekend except one - and I worked on my truck that weekend. I got in a total of about two hours of riding,  the lowest monthly amount I've had in probably ten years. This month, either the rains continued or it was Yankee cold. Finally on Saturday, the high was forecast to be 61į so I went for a ride. Lisa wanted me to go to her daughter's house warming party. Haha, no. I didn't plan any particular route or stops so I didn't take a lot of pictures. The stator is out on the DR so I had to ride the streetbike. It quickly made it up to 69į so I was shedding gear immediately.

I found this semi-interesting historical marker near Haskell, OK. Haskell is one of those little towns where everyone over 40 wears overalls and everyone else wears cowboy boots with athletic shorts - I'm not joking.

I stopped in Muskogee for a drink at the VFW. My sister is a vet and lives in Muskogee - didn't go see her, I had riding to do.

The Roxy theater in Muskogee. Built in 1948, closed ca. 1970, reopened 2001. It seats 300.

I crossed the Union Pacific Railroad via this bridge. I stopped on top to get a pic, a cop pulled up and asked if I was allright. I said I was a little disturbed about the recent events at the border but other than that, I was okay.

I went down under Lake Tenkiller dam. I've been across it a million times but never below. I thought this water tank in the side of the bluff was unique.

The road to the dam had bluffs on one side, the river on the other.

A pic of a big rock.

Some guy trout fishing. You can almost make him out behind the limbs. I threw some rocks in honor of PETA.

I stopped at "The Juicy Pig" for my late lunch of a diet Dr. Pepper and a Butterfinger.

I sent Lisa this pic of a Galloway Belted cow. She likes them.

I got in just under 200 miles. My top speed was only 102mph. Give me a break, it's not like I ride an FJR.

I'll be in Soccorro the 6th through the 10th. Will be in school from 0800-1500ish. I'll probably get there and have the whole day of the 5th to explore.

I quit writing them because it turned into just the same report over and over but with different pictures.

Take US60 west out of Socorro (~50 miles). Just to the s of the highway will be the VLA. Very cool

Yeah its been a bleak year on the east coast -- too much rain, too many funerals, and not enough riding.... Yours and other people's reports are always great to see...

Bump

Better late than never, I read this thread and enjoyed it. Thanks for taking the time for the pictorial write-up.
