A few days ago it was in the 80s and 90s. This morning it was raining and 37 with a high in the 50s. Typical of just before Halloween.

Day 4 of no motorcycle riding. I haven't committed any capital offenses, yet.

We are having a major ice storm in central Oklahoma. Power has been out for about 20 hours now and large tree limbs are everywhere. I went in to work this morning, but power there went out mid-morning and we called it a day at 11:00, sent everyone home. Came home and have been cutting up limbs this afternoon. Have to quit and get back inside because too many limbs are crashing down and very dangerous. Neighbors house just got a limb about 15 to 18" dia fall onto their roof. They are gonna have some serious structural damage, probably.

Need to gas up the generator and make another gas run this afternoon. My generator runs about 10 hours on a tank, so got to get enough to last the night. Wish I had more gas cans! But the bikes are safe in the garage.   :bigok:

It only got to 32° here this morning so we missed the ice. 38° now. My daughter lives over by Pawnee and she said they've been without power all day and part of last night.

How does it compare to the big ice storm in the mid-80s? That has us without power for more than 2 weeks. My wife and toddlers went to her house but I had to work. I kept my kerosene heater going in the living room. Cooked on top of it like a camp stove (all electric house). Move perishables out to the back porch. Caught melt drip off the roof into an ice chest to wash my face and dishes. Drove from work to my parents each evening to grab a shower.  We were with REC at the time.

So quite without power that I could hear the trees breaking under the weight of the ice.

We had one in mid-2000's that left us without power for 6 days. This time we have a better generator. Then I only had a portable welder that would put out low amount. Now it is better as the generator runs constant but running everything off power cords, but still don't have water (we are on a well and can't power it because of a electrical panel problem and can't put power through the panel).

We do have plenty of water in the pool to dip out and use to flush.

The only thing I really have to complain about is...

No motorcycle riding, day 5.

I'm looking at a Friday commute to set my world back right. Saturday I will probably have a quick 40 or 50 mile run as a short break from cleaning up the fallen trees.

One of the ice storms (2007 or 2008, can't remember) I was without power for five days. I had a small generator but it burned up after a couple days. I had a small propane camp heater that I used in the bedroom and I had a gas stove so I would light a couple burners and it would keep the house about 50°. I had a gas water heater too so I took a lot of hot showers. Sometimes I would just go driving around just to warm up.

Day 4 of power outage, but more importantly, day 6 of no motorcycle riding.

Thinking of getting the WR out to ride around the yard in the rain. Just for mental health purposes only. Also getting tired of making daily gas runs for the generator, and having extension cords running around the house. Found out I have a panel issue that won't let me connect the generator to the house, so the well pump isn't powered. Not having water sucks. And I am still flipping light switches every time I go into a room, just out of habit.

Snow is predicted here in central NY for later today.  Along with that comes warnings of outages due to downed power lines.  I've lived in my house for 20 years and have never suffered loss of electricity due to downed lines.   All our utilities are under ground.

Our local lines are underground. Our problem is thick ice and/or high winds on the medium sized transmission lines with trees around them. It doesn't happen that often, but when it does it usually sucks for about a week. This is only the second or third time in 20 years we have lost power for more than 24 hours. When this is over, I need to contract an electrician to replace my panel. It has malfunctioned and will not allow me to disconnect from the grid (easily), so I can't connect my generator to the whole house.

Good news! Got power back on late last night. Long hot shower felt really good. Above freezing by a degree or two in the morning, so got to ride to work today. Low 60's and dry this afternoon with sunshine. The world is back on level, with me being the master of tilting it in the corners.

I got off work about 12:30 this afternoon. I took advantage of the now-good weather and got in about a 40 mile ride. I'll do a longer one tomorrow.

We had over 5" of rain this week. Our field guys missed three and a half days of work. They're paid hourly so they are going to work Saturday and Sunday.

My buddy Steve from Colorado that I have written about is in the process of moving to New Mexico. He finally sold his cabin and has to move here in two weeks. He needs help getting his NINE motorcycles down here. I am trying to get a couple of buddies to drive with us back to Colorado and we can all ride a bike back here. Those kinds of things are so much fun for me. What's better than that? Of course, WARM gear will be required.     :D

His FJR1300 is here so other picks:
Hayabusa
GSXR1000
Suzuki BKing
Victory Vision
Gold Wing
Triumph Rocket Three
Suzuki M109
Ducati Diavel

Your choice!!!          :bigok:

We are on the way back to Colorado now. I will ride his Victory Vision back. We have figured out how to get all bikes down here but two. His Vision and Gold Wing. I wanted to ride the Vision so that will be this trip. Looks like we will be going back to Colorado on Thursday and I will ride his Gold Wing back then. No way did I want to ride his Ducati or GSXR back. Not my idea of long distance motorcycles!

Rode to work Monday and Tuesday, now for the rest of the week it looks like 4 wheels. Predicting cold rain with a little frozen mixed in, but I don't trust weather forecasters that well. They are pretty good on what will happen, just not so good on where and when.

I hate cold and winter more and more the older I get!

Got into the 30s a couple of nights this week. Thankfully it recovered into the 50s/60s during the day. Not for much longer though. Soon we'll be consistently in the 40s.

I was planning on taking the FJ09 out for a back roads loop this afternoon, when the temps are supposed to be in the mid-forties. Seeing Jay's picture made me start thinking about the WR and exploring some woods instead.

After today, next 5 days are gonna have ice and snow, so may not be back on a bike till Friday's commute. Good news is I am off work after that until after the new years, and Debra wants to go down to Port Aransas for about a week. Take the WR and go beach riding!   :inlove:

Been a full week now since I have ridden one of my bikes. The weekend and next week they are predicting single digit temps and over a foot of snow. Tuesday morning predicting a low of -17F.  Normal highs are supposed to be in upper 50's, with lows around freezing.

Looks like another week before I will be able to ride. I'm not a happy camper!

We got lucky here at the house, no power outage.  Our hot water line froze Sunday morning. We got it thawed after about five hours of shuffling heaters and moving insulation in the attic.

We had a one-hour outage at work Monday. The hourly workers got to go home. We salaried workers had to stay.

I hate winter, particularly this one.

I’ve been in our house long enough to know what needs to be done in real cold weather. Main thing is a drop light by the well holding tank and plumbing in the garage with a blanket over the top. That is the only plumbing I have to deal with.

Both at work and home had power shut off by the electric company to conserve it. Both only lasted
An hour at a time. Our union guys mostly stuck around, getting paid of course, until it came back on, then they left. Some weird way to game the contract. Since a few left earlier and we have to guarantee minimum 4 hours when they come in, a bunch left after 3 hours and got paid for 4. These guys can’t read and understand a procedure, but sure can digest their contract like a New York lawyer!
