This is the west coast of Vancouver Island. Tofino in the distance and Chesterman beach closer up. The scale is deceiving.

Yes south of Kaslo but just south of Ainsworth. The wooden bridge is no more and has been replaced by a wider, more engineered concrete structure.

Typical sign along Kootenay roads.

Yeah I figured you'd get that one. I can't see it re-opening, just not enough people come down that highway, and the ones that do are motorcyclists and everyone knows how cheap we typically are.

Nope!

It's the Kamloops Heritage Railway steam engine that runs between Kamloops and Armstrong through the summer. The pics was taken on Hwy 97 between Monty Lake and the Hwy 1 junction. Sorry no wine on this train.
I'll try and get a shot of it this year with the bike in the foreground.

"The Okanagan of Vancouver Island" ... seems every time we went there, which was often, the weather was warm and the water wonderful. Sproat Lake Provincial Park has great camping and often an air show thrown in. Even on hot days the sound of those massive radials gives me goose bumps !

I really enjoyed my visit to Drumheller and the Tyrell Museum, oh, over a decade ago.  Really gotta go again sometime.  One thing I did enjoy there were the incredibly tacky dinosaur statues and murals (the high school had a mural with the stadium doors placed in the dinosaur mouth, as I recall).

Drumheller started life as a coal mining town, and there are several small ghost towns in the badlands there.  We stayed in Wayne, (http://www.ghosttowns.com/canada/alberta/wayne.html) at the old hotel above the saloon--bedrooms were nice, bathroom down the hall...  The road to Wayne is interesting, 11 bridges in only a few km (the road keeps recrossing the same stream).

Another attraction in Alberta is Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump, where the First Nations demonstrated their environmental sensitivity centuries before Europeans arrived ;)  Definitely worth seeing--or at least, I really enjoyed my visit.  Dunno if the access road is paved yet (it wasn't when I was last there over a decade ago).

Let me know when you go, and we'll meet in Wayne.   I've heard lots about the Saloon,  they have a folk fest there sometime during the year, my brother sat in on the old rickety piano for a night.   Be warned,  you may have to share a bathroom........... it is an old hotel.

I've also never been to the Tyrell.

Overlander falls...best experienced from the seat of a kayak, IMO!

(No, I've never run the falls...but I have done the "seal launch" from the rocks on river left (on the right in the photo) when I ran the Upper Fraser river a decade or so ago.)

And of course, when I think of Wells Gray, I think of the Clearwater, one of the most fun paddling rivers in BC (or anywhere!)

A local company rents inflatable kayaks ("rubber duckies," kinda like one or two-man rafts) for the Slocan River--normally, you'd need to hire a guide, but since I'm a sometimes instructor for them they'll let me take you down

If you want to post it from your computer, you have to upload the attachment (see "Additional options" below the posting window). Otherwise, upload it to a photo sharing site (Flickr, Smugmug, etc) and then use the [img] tags
