Triumph Announces Its Triumph Premier Group Dealerships For 2009

Dec 17, 2008, ©Copyright 2008, Roadracing World Publishing, Inc.

From a press release issued by Triumph (America):

ATLANTA - Triumph Motorcycles has announced the 2009 class of Triumph Premier Group (TPG) dealerships. The annual program recognizes authorized Triumph motorcycle dealers who demonstrate exemplary customer service, outstanding sales & marketing plus an over the top commitment to the Triumph brand. For 2009, more than 60 dealerships across North America have earned this elite status.

The prestigious TPG designation was developed to acknowledge Triumph dealers who surpass key performance goals and create an outstanding customer experience that exemplifies Triumph's sense of relaxed refinement. The program has three designations: Platinum, Gold and Silver. In order to qualify for TPG status, dealers must meet or exceed operational standards in the previous twelve-month period, including: : exceeding sales goals, excelling in customer and sales service, and buying into the corporate image with Triumph designed retail store fixtures. Membership is evaluated on an annual basis.

"Whether you are a dealership's owner or manager, an employee of a dealer or a customer, being part of the Triumph family is something special," said Mike Cunningham, Vice President of Dealer Development for Triumph Motorcycles (America) Ltd. "The Triumph Premier Group was designed to show our support for our dealers who embody the Triumph spirit, and reward them with additional tools that further facilitate the best possible sales and service experience for new and existing customers."

(Emphasis mine)

I wonder how each aspect was weighed. I don't care about the corporate image krep, I want people who know their business and care enough to do it well.

I didn't think there were that many in the entire USofA.

My dealer is Gold - what do you have to do to make silver - kick the customer square in the nads?

160 Total dealers, I believe.  I'm not sure how many are on that list, but it doesn't look like quite 160?

Jack Trebour Triumph/Ducati/suzuki/MV Augusta in Ledgewood, NJ.

Wow, quite a few in PA. When I was in the market for a new scoot last Fall I happened in on one of those dealers listed as Platinum. The sales guy was such as asshat that I left and swore I would never own a Triumph. So I am not sure what the overall criteria is for making the Platinum level but as it relates to the overall "sales" experience I have to surmise that the bar ain't set too high.

My guess is there's significant weight to the Triumph branding within the store.  4 of the dealers i have done business with are on the list.  3 of the 4 I would rate higher and the 4th wouldn't be on my list.

Who's to know?  (the shadow)

My main dealer is Platinum - Southern California Triumph, Brea, CA
My secondary is Silver - South Bay Triumph, Lomita, CA

Though, I get most of my parts from Platinum - Hermy's Triumph, Port Clinton, PA
and Gold - Ma's Cycles, West Fargo, ND.

Avoiding taxes you know.

Mine (SHoreline in Kenosha) is Silver -- I find this hopeful, as, with Stromgal, I care not a whit about corporate displays and geegaws, and Shoreline is a good representative of a Mom n Pop dealership -- not trying to be a "destination" at all (as opposed to the corporately mandated HD image), but good service, in my experience, painless sales (2 bikes in our motorpool came from there), and generally nice folks.

If I get into grad school at WWU I'll be close to the Bellingham dealer.  I like upswept "off-road" exhausts, pictures of Steve McQueen, separate transmission cases, Whitworth wrenches, Lucas electrics and pools of oil on concrete floors.  But I can't buy into a corporate image.

Now how in the hell did Frederick Yamaha make silver? Been there twice while looking for Triumphs (they missed out on sales twice). They acted like they didn't want to be bothered.

Maybe they just sell more Ducs and Suz?

IIRC didn't B'Hamvfr or somebody have an issue with this dealership doing burnouts on his bike when he took it in for new tires? I think they were burning off the last of his old tire prior to changing them and he caught them.
Anyone else remember this from the V1 board? :headscratch:

I'm kinda surprised Manayunk Triumph in Philly didn't make at least Silver.  They are a Triumph-only dealership, you can't beat that kind of brand committment.

Same with Martin's.  However, a test ride convinced me not to buy.

My favorite dealer doesn't sell Triumphs.  But then I don't ride one either.

I'll still shop at Martins or Hermies any day.

The local Victory dealer just started carrying Triumph and BMW this fall so they didn't make the list. They had the Triumph demo fleet down and I enjoyed a demo ride on Sprint ST and a Street Triple. Wish I had more time for more rides.  :D

Martin's is another good dealer in the area as you never get any pressure in their store. I also like what they have done to produce other options for Ephrata Sunday. Hermies can't be beat for test rides.

That's the truth. Joe is a really cool guy. He did a great job doing the walk-around when I picked up my Sprint, showed me around the shop, and made me feel like he really cared about doing his job well. He's always polite and tries to get you in and out as efficiently as possible.

My dealer is in Platinum list and for good reason; they are totally awesome. Great Bay in Hampton, NH has top notch service, support, and a great sales staff. I tell everyone to shop there, well, at least in my area.

The other local dealer in NH made gold, but I would have put them in the Rusted Cold Rolled Steel list (somewhere on the bottom of the Atlantic). Went there for one service, because they are a little closer to home, and ended up with a blown top end, followed by many follow up errors, and when I finally got the Sprint back it lasted 400 miles before the engine blew. Long story short...the good dealer found wood screws in the valve assembly. Yes! wood screws....

for me it is no 2nd chances for 2nd Wind.

I wasn't impressed with Great Bay.  When I was shopping for an '08 Sprint, they wanted $830 more than Street Cycles in Falmouth, ME wanted!

I am not sure one could judge a dealer by the price point they set.  They all are there to make a profit, all would love to sell you a bike for more money.  it's a combinations of factors, like the sales levels, inventory levels, need to move bikes due to luck of space, personality of a salesperson and a buyer interaction that affect the price.  I wouldnot hold a grudge if I was not able to negotiate the price I wanted i would merely not buy this bike, but if said more expensive dealership is providing good customer care, knowledgable service department and nicely stocked parts counter, i might consider spending sligtly more to get "personal" level or service.  I know that at my dealer they are willing to go that important extra step in providing service to their customer, even if my current bike was not bought from them, but I am still remembered as a "buying customer" from before

I wouldn't call $830 "slightly more"!   I have had good dealings with Street Cycles, they are good people, and an hour ride closer.  So those were the factors in my decision to not just go with price alone.  I do understand what you mean with good customer service, a good service department, etc.

Don't know how they determine the ratings, but the local Triumph dealer here in Boise (Big Twin) didn't appear in any of the categories. They are a multi-line dealer, though.

Don't own a Triumph, but have drooled on a few.

+1 on Life Cycle. I think part of the criteria Triumph uses in classing the dealers is from the survey they send out when you purchase a new bike. Life Cycle went to some length to make sure I had a good experience and that I would fill out the online survey from Truimph.

Yes I would agree to disagree with that assessment.  Their sales staff seemed friendly, but service staff did not.  Their service work seemed ok though, but I did not get a welcome/warm feeling there in each of the 4 times I visited.  I now go somewhere else where they know me by name, even when I call.

My "local" dealer Eldorado Cycle in MO didn't make the list and that is a shame because they are the best motorcycle (not just Triumph) dealership I've ever set foot in.  They also are a multi brand dealer though with Zooki, Victory, and Royal Enfield.  Don't think Triumph likes that to much... :twofinger:

I've dealt with the Triumph/BMW team out of Charlotte, NC, for years. Truly a class act and a staff with a very low turnover. Unfortunately, they're 3 1/2 hrs away, but worth it if I need them.

Just under a year ago a strange pairing occurred in Charleston, SC. The local Big Dog Choppers dealer brought in Triumph, I was very excited. I spent a lot of time out there getting to know the staff, the mechanics and owners. I felt they had great potential and seemed up to the task of bringing quality customer service along with these great machines. I even helped sell a couple of bikes for them by talking with customers and filling in where the salesmen were lacking in knowledge. I gladly volunteered to assist during the big grand opening where the Triumph USA staff were present and appreciated the few of us loyal owners representing the brand.

Unfortunately they couldn't maintain the standard they'd set and have become one of the worst customer service oriented dealers in the area. It's really too bad, they had it made and blew it. There are about 6 of us who refuse to step foot in the store, or will ever spend another penny there. We're telling our fellow riders too, it's that bad.

We all have our horror stories that jade us a bit. With this dealer it's not just an isolated issue, its deeper and more indicative of the owners and management cultural and image issues.  Because of the Big Dog influence, they're more "biker" minded.

They don't want a RAT, which is reasonable and not something anyone here holds against them, but it sure would help them with their image if they allowed a couple of us to represent the Triumph ideology to the local area in this manner.

I guess that 3 1/2 hrs to Charlotte isn't so bad after all...

Cheers.

Charlotte folks haven't moved yet, they're certainly crammed into that building!

They have a gentleman on staff who has to be one of the best 955i engine mechanics I've ever met, super smart on the engines and definately a power/speed junkie! He swears by the 675 too, runs a newer Daytona and Street Triple on track days.... what a dream job; wrenching and racing....  :)

The dealer I mentioned above is the same.  And have the worst service dept. I've ever had the nightmare of experiencing.

They won't (or can't) perform a full service, damage parts when they do attempt a service, and are dishonest.  It took me 7 MONTHS to get them to correctly repair my Sprint ST after they damaged the fairing after letting them do the 24K service.  I ended up taking it on the 250 mile round trip to EuroSport Cycles in Fort Worth (Silver) where I got the ST and who'd done the 12K, to get the 24K service fully completed.  And they discovered that the plugs that the H-D shop had charged me for were not installed, so they had to do that.

I at least took some satisfaction in knowing it cost the H-F shop more to repair the damage they caused then what I paid them to do the service

I'm warning all Triumph owners to avoid them like the black plague.  I'm still kicking myself for getting lazy and using them instead of taking the 4+ hour round trip to Eurosport.  Their only upside is they have an excellent parts guy who knows his Triumphs.

The Tucson dealer did not make the list.  I'm 95% sure that's because they suck.

Who is the Tucson dealer these days?

This is a year old and Platinum Ft. Lauderdale Pure Triumph went out of business this past fall.  My favored dealer, Ft. Myer's Triumph definitely deserves their platinum status.  Family run and excellent service all around.  Highly recommended.

I just ordered from Pure Triumph last night - they seemed pretty not-out-of-business to me (?).

It was nothing for the bike.  I got Triumph AS4 boots for myself, which are part of the new Alpinestar gear collection.
