Title: Average MPG

I get 43 MPG avg with the gsxr and 48 with the SV.

About 42mpg average with my Street Triple R in normal conditions.  Lowest has been about 28mpg, commuting is 32-35mpg, and the highest has been about 52mpg.

It generally gets around 45mpg.

It doesn't really matter how I ride on the VFR. I get 40mpg. Riding hard in the twisties? 40. Slabbing across the state? 40. High speed sweepers? 40.  The one time I was lower than that was heading across Nebraska into a stiff quartering headwind with saddlebags and a large tail bag. That time I got 36ish.

I'm usually in the high 30s because my commute is 0-60-0 over and over again. It's basically the worst possible scenario for fuel mileage. I would actually be a good candidate for a hybrid if I wanted to drive a car.

The highest I've seen was in the mid 50s on a long highway slog.

After hearing about it on The Pace Podcast, I'm pretty much addicted to tracking mpg on fuelly.com.  Thanks a lot :bigok:

I don't know what I do wrong.  I've never averaged close to 40mpg with any of my bikes ever - usually 32-34.  I don't think I ride outrageously fast or high in the revs or hard on the throttle.

They've all been larger displacement motors, but twins, triples, and fours - all about the same.

Now is that an imperial gallon (real one) or the Gallon US.  Real gallons have 160 ounces and the US gallon has 132 ounces.  Big difference in mileage if you compare both gallons.

Title: Re: Average MPG
Post by: Rabidsnipe on October 20, 2010, 04:35:56 pm
Those are US gallons.  You can pick in the setup whether you use US gal or IMP gal.

Maybe you ride in a lower gear than those that are getting 40+.  At a steady speed above 45 mph, I'm normally in 5th or 6th gear.

No, I don't really do that.  I do zip up to speed in the "relevant" gear, but when I settle in I click up to 6.  I do *downshift* pretty regularly (like whenever I roll off the gas) - I don't like asking the engine to pull from 3K even slowly - but I pop right back up to 6th.  I used to think it was the alcohol/MTBE here in CA, but nowadays everybody has that, and it's only 10% in any case.

Used to get 50 on summer fuel, 45 on the ethanol mix sold in Denver during the winter months.

Moved to lower altitude in Missouri.  Now I'm lucky to get over 40 MPG, even on the interstate.

I get 60 MPG if I keep it at 40 MPH in 6th gear with a tail wind

But under normal conditions, 39-40, aggressive riding and high MPH's on the highway and that drops quite a bit.

Title: Re: Average MPG
Post by: 2wTraveler on November 25, 2010, 10:43:14 pm
Depends on the type of riding I am doing at the time. Aggressive puts me in the 35-40 range. Slab puts me in the 40-45 category.

43 mpg average with commuting to work and general running around. 53 or so slabbing it on longer rides in ECON mode. all bets are off when in play mode; the 1400 will decimate a tank really quick.

Lower air density, less aero drag, better gas mileage. As simple as that.FI bike are better in this because their  AFR don`t get all fcuk up do to altitude changes.

I always chuckle when dudes from mile high regions brag about their MPG,you will not get those great numbers at sea level, fur real.

I dunno about that. If I where to ride my 500 at the speed limit based on the speedo and shift at 4k I think I'd hafta take gas out of the tank every night. I'll bet it would get in the high 50's.

Man...I can tell I'm the slow old fart on a 650!   I've almost never gotten below 50mpg on my Wee-Strom. (I think I got 48mpg once after a crazy-spirited ride...).

Once I got 60mpg on it...but that was definitely riding like a 90-year-old (kept the revs at 4K or below 100% of the time, LOL...was just curious how much of a difference it made...and it made a BIG difference!).

According to my Fuelly charts, the WeeStrom averages just over 50 with a high of 60 and low of 37.

So far on the Concours I'm averaging 40 with a high of 51 and low of 35.  Although I expect this to drop with the cold weather.  It's seems to affect the Concours mpg much more than the WeeStrom.

I just got a Honda NT700V. :inlove:  Wit still less than 600 miles on the bike it is getting an aggregate 52.8 mpg according to the on board computer.  The last tank averaged 48.5 MOL for only commuting and local short trips.  I haven't actually check a trip mileage yet but it seems to be 55 or so.

The BMW has averaged mid to high 40s over about 100K miles.

The TW will go as low as 55mpg if I'm really, really twisting on it, but 70ish is more common.  I know it's capable of much higher numbers, but the smaller rear sprocket and my inability to not go everywhere on it WFO mitigate against that.  :o

In part, yes.

Stick around you will have a lot of questions about a lot of fucked up stuff. Like Who the hell is Bob Meilke anyway?

Average on the EV has been right around 44mpg, pushing 50mpg on longer trips. I have to say mpg is part of why I picked my ride. Fuel efficiency is not a total deal killer, but I really can't see riding a bike that gets worse mileage than a small car. So, two-liter cruisers and tourers are excess for its own sake., IMO. Even the thirstier liter class bikes usually get more mpg than the Hyundai, unless you get on them pretty hard.

K1200GT 45-48 mpg, except in Colorado riding the passes and staying above 8,000 ft it got 56 mpg over 400+ miles

The Ducati - wife consistantly gets 57-58 mpg, I can't get better than 45, worst was 24 at a track day, needed a new rear tire too after that

i haven't even bothered  checking mine cause i only ride .8miles to work with the occasional ride off base for lotto tickets (5 miles round trip). last long ride i've done was to Lexington, MO and that was...like...  gosh... i think over a month or so ago. but as it is... if i go off base twice a week, i fill up once every 3.5 to 4 weeks. now THAT is shit mileage. soo..let's see..  40 miles plus my commuting mileage....roughly 30 more miles...  so 70 to a tank when the light first comes on... so... approx...best case 3 gals =23 mpg, worse case 4 gals = 17-18....  ouch! awww.. F it!!  i love riding it no matter what. when i actually do a trip, i'll check it then.
i used to track all my other bikes since they actually got warmed up otw to work....  VFR was 45 ave...  Busa was 42, 04 750 was 35, 92 nighthawk...  high 50's low 60's, fjr was approx 40. oh, and the 04 750 at the track... no comment!

42-44 w/ the 1250.

Low 40s-high 50s w/ the KLX depending on load and riding environment. Heavy load, high speed, high altitude sucks it down the fastest, off road loaded in just about any conditions I can bank on 50 to calculate safe ranges. Light load, moderate speeds on road I get high 50s. It's just getting broken in at 3K miles, so it may change a bit in the future.

'03 Sprint ST

40 around town
47 in the twisties
50 or so on boring straight state highways (60-70mph)

37 has been the worst, mostly second gear flogging on back roads
53 the very best

Two years since the last post here!!!!!!!!!!

A month ago I gassed up in Gunnison, CO and traveled through Lake City and on to Pagosa Springs, CO. Then the next morning I went from PS through Durango, CO and to Cortez, CO. The elevation was probably never under 5,000 feet anywhere I rode on that tank of gas. But still, I would never have believed anyone that told me their FJR1300 got that mileage. I wasn't SPORT riding but wasn't being passed by anyone else either. I ended up gassing up at 280 miles and the tank went on reserve at 270 miles!!!!!!!!!

55.9 MPG

On my latest 3,100 mile trip that ended three days ago I took the 2016 Bandit 1250, I only got under 50 mpg twice! When traveling through Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Montana I got the best mileage. Around 55 mpg. Really! On one 110 mile run between gas stops I got 58 mpg!

I added a one tooth larger front sprocket which changed gearing up about 7%. So my speedometer is now spot on as compared against those radar thingies on the side of the road. My odometer seems to reading about 2% LOW!

Are you getting your figures mathematically or off the bike's computer? I've noticed that the on-board mpg is pretty generous.

On my FJ-09, I pretty much get 45 mpg all the time.
My DR650 gets about 45 on solo rides  (faster pace), 50+ when my wife goes.

The Bandit does not have a "bike" mpg reading.

I have a routine when traveling: 1) bike on centerstand 2) fill to brim 3) devide gas in, against miles traveled 4) WOW!

I get around 40 mpg on average with my 04 ST1300. I've gotten over 50mpg before, but that was on some pretty flat stretches of hwy.  My average gives me around 300 miles per tank, but I generally gas up around 260.

My 94 CBR 600F2 had a curb weight of 470lbs, but would consistently get 50mpg regardless of my riding style.  My 04 600F4i would get a max of 40mpg even though it was 50lbs lighter and fuel injected. . .  And 40 was only at consistent low speed riding. . .

Oil- That's because they are cruising at a lower RPM, their torque and light throttle operation are more efficient than a buzz bomb cruising at 6,000 RPMs
or more.

Huey- I've always wanted to start a thread on your very comments. Why did my 680lb, loaded FJR, spinning at more RPM get WAY better MPG than my 100lb lighter ZX14 spinning at lower RPMS?

Got back last week from a two day trip to visit my buddy up in beautiful Colorado. I took my 2016 Suzuki Bandit 1250. I've been posting in other places about its incredible gas mileage. Check out this picture. Cruising at 3,600 rpms at 68 mph(1 tooth up on front sprocket) you can see on the gauge 176.6 miles and still two bars(five gallon tank) on gas gauge without being on reserve. The 96 GMC with the 350cc got 13 at best.
The 98se Wing got 32 on it's best day and 19 on at least one tank.
The 2003 FJR gets 40+ depending on conditions.
The 2008STi got 26 if I put it in cruise at 55mph on the highway for long stretches.
The 2017 RS3 gets 26 without babying but can go as low as 15 in hunker-down mode while hauling the mail and as high as 36 if I watch the Ps and Qs.

But if I wanted MPG I'd not have owned any of the above.

Not so much.
The GMC was 13mpg city or highway regardless of how I drove it.

The 98se was dual carb and designed when national limits were 55. Break 65 and you were into 32mpg. Ride in the western US and it was MUCH lower.

The FJR can get above 42mpg if I poke along but why get anything other than a Whizzer if that was the case?

The 2008STi was tuned to get nearly 300hp and more than 300tqs at the AWD wheels and, again, if I wanted to drive like I was in a Prius, I'd have bought one of those.

The RS3 throws tech at 400Hp to get better mpg than the STi even when driving at highway speeds with the flow of traffic. Crank it over into "Dynamic" mode and that can go down to about 15mpg based on your throttle use.

We all know you trade fuel+air for power. More power = more fuel consumed.

My driving history is pretty good. Have had few tickets and the last was in 98 when I was testing the steel belted radials that came out for the bike (designed for bias ply). Some were claiming they were unstable at speed and we speculated that those people weren't checking the PSI often enough or overloading the bike. After proving that it wasn't the properly-adjusted tires, I was on my way back down from max top end (BFE) when I passed a trooper doing about 90 in a 70.. Oh well. Could have been worse. Deferred adjudication.

My new Suzuki GSX S1000 is one heck of an economy bike!!    :D     Who'd thought! "Normal" riding it regularly gets around 50 mpg. But, check this tank full out. 220 miles on the 4.5 gallon tank and OVER 58 mpg!! It is on reserve(went to reserve at 205 miles) and the gas station is about three miles away so I will fill it up and refigure.

I did take it very easy on this last ride 120 mile ride. Riding with a very novice rider.
