Title: Upstate NY - I went for a ride today.
Post by: cbsnbiker on December 11, 2006, 01:33:25 am
I rode to Hudson, NY; chatted with the owner of a restaurant in town who owns a Beemer, and patted his dog; had a cup of joe and a slice of cake at a coffee shop; then rode home.

Ordinarily that would be a wholly unremarkable thing to do, except that this is December and the weather was sunny and about 50 degrees. Hurrah!  :)

I hope others were able to ride today as well. I also hope to get in some more riding later this week, if the good weather persists.

Also, while I was stopped by the side of the road to make an adjustment to my bike, a fellow on a mid-'90s UJM stopped by to make sure all was well. We chatted for a good 20 minutes or so. Probably half a dozen riders and a couple cage drivers also stopped to make sure that we were all right. I like the camaraderie of riders.

I'm right there with you.

I saw multiple cars with x-mas trees on the roof, and all kinds of trucks with plows.

Not really anything out of the ordinary for New Hampshire in the middle of December. Except I was on my bike!

I got to say, this global warming thing has some good fringe benefits  :D

What's your homebase in "upstate ny"?

Yes, yes, yes.  The weather is remarkable.  I rode today and yesterday and most of last week.  And it is December 11th.  The weather gods must ride motorcycles and they are giving us all an extended season.

How sweet it is.

If this weather pattern continues,-
we will have to change the name of the Region 6 POLAR BEAR RIDE!

Winter Solstice Speedo Seasonal Regional?

with proper safety gear also.

I have been using STABIL since end of OCT. and now I have to get more.

(small price to pay for extended season)

See yer Sat. Jan. 20 at Javits.

Took my bike into Boston on Sunday to have dinner with my folks. Mid-50's and sunny on Dec. 10th. Works for me, even though riding in Boston isn't one of my favorite pastimes. But this time of year I'll take what I can get.

I rode today myself. This warm weather isn't unprecedented here, but it seems like we've gotten more of it in the past 15 years than we used to.

Today is rainy, so I won't bother going for a ride. But tomorrow looks promising again, as do other days in the upcoming week. Plus today's rain may wash away some salt. That's a good thing.

I'm in the Albany area.

How are the roads in the hills to the North and East?  I'm hoping this rain and Fridays rain cleans off the roads so I can hit the hills this weekend! :burnout:

Well, I've mostly been sticking to the valleys, since they're warmer and the roads are clearer. But I did notice that the roads weren't bad to the east of me. Route 2, for example, was quite pleasant.
