Hi,
This is my first post.  Not sure if I'll get this photo to upload right.  I've been out of riding for a while.  I just picked up a new bike today, a BMW R1200R.  So I'm psyched to get back into riding.  I started checking out ST.net about a month ago and it seems like a great group and a good resource for information.  I'm hoping to hook up with some local rides and get my chops back cause I'm kind of rusty at the moment.  Smile  Thanks...

Well here goes.

You prolly guessed my name is Ed. I'm not very creative with the board name so an old family nic name it is.
I have been riding since I was 16.
I finally got online in the last year and mostly hung out on the Blackbird forum.

I hope to do more touring in the future so maybe I will get to meet some of ya'll.

Welcome all.  There's a wealth of information here.  Peruse and enjoy.

I would have made this a lot more interesting, but I'm being ignored by two members and I want to gain back their faith by being bland and noncontroversial.  However, they won't know how hard I'm trying, because they're ignoring me.

Sigh.

Hello, my name is Tad and I have owned motorcycles continuously for 23 years (including a short stretch where I owned one but didn't know where it actually was...).

Bike history:
1984ish Suzuki GN125D (first street motorcycle, had mini bikes, trikes and a bit of off-road before)
89 or 90 Suzuki Katana 600 (stolen 3 times, third one stuck)
1976 Honda CB750 (project bike once I had a garage)
2005 Suzuki Katana 750 (when I got tired of the project bike only being ridable half the time)

Hey, been lurking as a guest for a little while, and thought I'd finally register and say hello.  Lots of good info on this site, it's been good reading.

Been riding since the mid-80's...current ride is an '07 Yamaha FZ1 that's only a month old.  Previous bike was an '02 FZ1.

This pic was taken last weekend riding down Skyline Drive.

There are more photos on my Flickr page if anyone's interested.  Just bought a tiny camera I've vowed to take on all my rides from now on.

Ride safe everyone!   Thumbsup

Nice looker, Tom.  Are the oft-reported fueling problems of the first year or two sorted out to your satisfaction?

Greetings:  I have been riding motorcycles for a long time, about a half century.  I grew up with BSA but now prefer the Yamaha 650 for reliability.  I also have a Yamaha FJ1200 for sport touring, and Moto Guzzi V50, V65 and T3.  Once in awhile I ride my Ducati 900SS but not much.  I promised myself when I entered my dotage I would slow down.  I like having a variety of motorcycles.  I've never had any kind of off road bike but I've had pretty much every other type.
I started my 2 wheel riding with an American Swallow bicycle with a 2hp Lawson pump engine bolted to it with a pulley that rubbed on the rear wheel.  It wasn't much but I put a lot of miles on that machine.  I also learned to wear protection from riding that Swallow.  I hit a dog at about 15mph and did a four point landing on gravel.  From that time on I started wearing gloves, helmet and jacket at least.  I've walked away from three crashes that would have done major damage had it not been for my protective gear.  I don't know if loud pipes save anything but I know a helmet and good gear does.
I live in the North so I can't ride all year but I generally go out if it is in the 40s or above.  I won't go when it is frozen unless I take out my old side car rig.  I have a '76 XS650 with a Velorex car I occasionally drive in winter.
For many years I restored old cars but now I work in an office.  Puttering on older bikes gives me something I can look at when I am done.  My job lacks that tangible result and I seem to need to have things I have done that are visible.  I refurbish old bikes in summer and make wood projects in winter.  I am also repairing an old J.P.Sauer Drilling in 16x16 over 9.3x72R.  While I don't know much about guns, I am slowly learning.  Some of my thoughts are at philomoto.blogspot.com.  I haven't taken time to write very often but hope to add more this winter.  I was in a legal office in the Army so I type but that's about the extent of my computer knowledge.
It is predicted to be 50 degrees tomorrow and I hope to get out for another ride before it snows.
Pleased to meet people and glad I found this site.  LN
