Here is my hello post.  I've been riding cruisers the last couple of years.  My brother and I got tired of the harley crowd (no offense to them) and decided to get into sport touring.  I got a hold of a 2006 Interceptor in August (brand new for $8500) and have been loving it ever since.  I doubt I'll ever go back to riding cruisers.  I've learned a lot lurking on this site over the last year and look forward for more to come.

GO BIG RED!!!!!!!!!!!!

GO BIG RED!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well taken, Husker!  I played bass drum in the marching band in the late 60's.  Even tho I have 2 daughters that attended the University of the Antichrist (CU-Boulder) my loyalties remain strong to the Square Boys and the Fair Girls.  Hail Varsity!  By the way: Isn't Tom Osborne still available?  What are those guys thinking????

I was in band in the early-mid nineties.  Let me know if you are ever in town for the alumni game.  Tom is doing a great job as AD thus far.  Now that Bo is back, we'll get back to the top in no time (might take 2 or 3 years, but we'll be back).

! Newbie alert !
Hi Guys,
I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm 48 years old and been riding for 32 years. Currently, I ride a Luxo-touring bike and a retro crotch rocket (entirely too fast).

Hey, just joined and wanted to say hi.  I wasn't aware of the site until I stumbled on a link at ADVrider.  Looks like a nice site, so here I am.  Now if the weather would just warm up a few degrees, so I can get back on the road.

Eh. Used to lurk at the old site. Gave up when it changed over and hadn't been back in a while.

Now that I'm in the "hello" thread, I've got this Beatles song in my head...

I'm the original owner of a high mileage FJR. Sport touring is where it's at.

So, "hello!"

Alex here.

I live in Santa Rosa,, CA and have been riding since 1997. Used to ride hard with all the knee draggers, but I would rather take it easy and far off places.

My last trip was in September. I rode to Boise where my buddy now lives. We did an Idaho/Montana tour.

I also learned a really hard tire lesson.

Here are some photos: http://www.knuckledonkey.com/trip07/

Hope to spend some time here and I look forward to meeting as many you as I can.

By way of introduction I started riding in 1952 when I was 13 years old on a Cushman Eagle.  From there it went to the Harley Hummer, several British bikes and then to Hondas, the 750 (4) and the Gold Wing.  That's over 50 years of riding pretty much all the time.  I am without a bike now and plan to pick up a ST of some type later this Spring.  Maybe a Gold Wing but I don't think so.  It was the best touring bike I ever had but I'm in the mood for a smaller bike as I have aged.  Could I hold one up anymore?

During all these years the most fun I had on any of my hobbies was going to motorcycling events.  Many many memories that I would like to add too.  I have some reservations but I sure am looking at a BMW in addition to the Honda.  If I don't go in that direction I'll go with the Honda 1300.  A comfortable ride on a smaller bike is what I'm looking for.  My hope is that if I ever get to ride the Honda it will ride like the Wing with just less power.  Before I buy I'll be looking at all the posts here trying to come to a decision.

On edit:  The Triumph listed by my name is still mine but was stolen in 1972.  It's still mine though!  Too bad I don't still have it.  It was a great ride.

Hi Everyone,

I live in Chatham S. E. England, started riding in 1959 on a BSA Bantam 125cc. I have been riding Moto Guzzi for the last 12 years, the big twins have me hooked. My current example is a California Jackal, pictured below at Dunnett Head, the furthest point North in the UK, last year.

 http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a122/waylett/Scotland/scotland015.jpg

Not really a sports bike, but I use it for touring, it handles really well and carries enough gear. My touring always includes camping gear. I will probably be changing the bike this year, I have had it since 2001. The replacement will be another Guzzi. I do most of  my own repairs and servicing, only the mysteries of fuel injection, cause me to use a dealer.

I retired last February so I can ride a lot more, last year I did twice my normal mileage and expect to do more this year. All my riding could be called touring, I do a lot of bike rallies both in the UK and mainland Europe.
This year I have already booked a rally in Scotland, 2 in Belgium, one in France, the Netherlands and Hamburg Germany. I will almost certainly be at Toerstop Motocamp in Melderslo Netherlands at different times. I sometimes stay there between rallies to save getting the boat home.

Apart from riding, my hobbies are drinking beer, fishing and history.

Hi,

Just found this forum and signed up yesterday to look for info on riding around Lake Superior. First post listed on Region 4 is about "Riding around the Lake". How cool is that.

Been riding since about 1968. I have my first mini bike ('69 Kawasaki Coyote) and my first street bike ('78 Yamaha XS400). Bought an '06 Z750S off ebay last spring and put about 750 miles on it in the Smokies last September.

Planning to do the Lake Superior ride this summer.
